Gaming PC Build - All Good?
Just thought I'd run this list by you guys to see if everything's compatible. Comments on quality of the components are also appreciated. Costs $950 after combo discounts and rebates, which is $50 less than my budget of $1000.

1. Replace the Samsung drive with a WD Black.
2. You really don't need the Arctic Silver, the stock heatsink has thermal material preapplied. 3. If you can afford it, upgrade the video card to a 5830. |

looks ok from my view, for the most part.
dont get the thermal compound, you dont need it. the heatsink that comes with the cpu will already have some applied. your mobo has sata 6gbp/s support use it. sub the spinpoint HDD for this one: Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive depending on the game, your chosen videocard 'may' leave something to be desired. perhaps a 5830 would suit you better. there are cheaper versions of that board that would suit you well if you dont plan on overclocking. glc beat me to the punch while i was typing this... sigh -D curious how we said the exact same thing...

The reason I switched to the Samsung Spinpoint HDD was because some reviews said the Caviar Black was noisy and ran hot.
Also, how much better is a 5830 than a 5770? Is it worth buying it over the 5770? |

Toms Hardware performance charts for graphics cards...
Performance Charts Graphics Cards - Benchmark I agree that for running the newer graphics intensive games that ideally you want a Radeon 5800 series card or an Nvidia 400 series card. For gaming your card makes the greatest difference for frame rates and eye candy.

I have a Caviar black..it isn't that noise as most people say..its actually not even noisy at all..it depends on the cases build..

if your HDD is making noise, its probably about to fail... severely... either that or it is mounter loose. it has been a long time since HDDs have made that annoying clicking sound when they read/write information.
