idk if 250 bucks is enough to build much of anything... perhaps ebay.

I agree with Nikon, something like ebay is your best bet for a computer for that kind of budget however it can be hit and miss with ebay and you could end up with a brick in a box.

I would look on Craigslist instead. By buying it locally, you can always get in the car and drive it back to the seller if it does not work. Hassling with Paypal, shipping and the ripoffs on Ebay can be a big PITA.

I'd hate to see what kind of garbage parts would be in a new $250 computer. With that kind of budget, get a decent used box off Craigslist.

Didn't we see a post(not to long ago) with a box that was purchased off ebay that actually had a brick in it?

i am with spools, i think you can get a mini notebook for about $300, you know if 1 Giga hertz cpu, pretty bad gpu, smaller keyboard, and smaller hard drive will work for you.

I knew of a PC with a dead mouse inside, but never of one with a brick.

Here it is: Be careful what you buy on eBay...

The netbook isn't a bad idea, you can find them refurbished for $200. I bought 3 refurbished Acer Aspire One netbooks with 1G RAM, 160G HDD and Win XP for $200 each. You can't tell the refurbished ones from new.
You might also look someplace like Craigslist for a local used computer. If it's just going to be used for email and web surfing you could probably find a used P4 Desktop for less than $100. You can find used CRT monitors being given away for free on Craigslist.
