Advice/Opinions on a new Gaming Rig

Hello, and welcome to my first post. This is the build I am looking at, and just want to see if people with more experience than me can offer some suggestions or advice. This rig will be primarily for Hardcore gaming and some light HTCP duties. Also since this will cost a fair amount by the end I will be buying it in stages. Stage 1 will be the core components to get it up and going, Stage 2 is WCing, Stage 3 would be the extra stuff and OCing. Thanks!

Component Item
Proc: Intel Core i7-930 2.8GHz LGA 1366 Quad-Core Desktop Processor SLBEJ I may go with the I7 950 since its now only 20 dollars more than the 930

Mobo EVGA X58 Classified 141-BL-E760-A1 Also the E762 may go in since I found some on New Egg for the same price as the E760, just makes me wonder if theres something wrong with it.

Ram CRUCIAL MEMORY BL3KIT25664TG1608 This seems like decent Ram which fits in my almost top of the middle ground buy theme.

Vidcard 1 Gigabyte GV-N470UD-13I GTX 470
Vidcard 2 Gigabyte GV-N470UD-13I GTX 470
Probably gonna go with EVGA on these, since I like EVGA's warranty best.

Case HAF 942 HAF X FULL TOWER

HD3 Seagate Constellation ES 500GB

1 or the other, probably not both. There to control the cooler fans and a case fan or two

Most of my questions are in blue, but again please feel free to give me advice or constructive criticism. This being my first real build, and my first really nice comp, I wanna make sure its sound. As for price, well im not looking for top of the line super expensive stuff, so reasonable suggestions would be accepted ^^

Welcome to PCMech Tromin!

I can tell you right off the bat that the professional builders here are going to tell you to wait until you have all the money and then buy all the components at once. The primary reason is that most prices drop over time and technologies change frequently. You want a computer where all the hardware works well together and is the best bang for the buck for the budget.

I see a significant number of changes I would make to the hardware to make your rig more reliable and more cost effective. I think you might be a little surprised at how much needs to be changed. But go with it because the pro builders here have built thousands of rigs for their own businesses, including high end gaming rigs, and really do know what they speak of.

What is your budget and in which country are you located? As it stands, this is going to be a pricey gaming rig which is fine. Give us a budget and we can help build you a kick-ass yet reliable and cost effective gaming rig.

Hey David, and thanks for the response. I would be looking at a maximum of 4K for this build. I cant wait to see what the advice will be, I have done alot of research, mind you its hard to find current reviews for some of the stuff I have been looking at.

Thanks! Tromin

You can get a computer that is capable of playing 99% of all the games at full resolution, full game settings and 60 FPS for much less than that. Why spend more than what you need to achieve that?

Given you have $4000 to spend, I would put the extra money into a multi-monitor setup. I think that's the next step for PC gaming, with Eyefinity getting better all the time and Nvidia's relatively new multi-monitor system just getting started. There are also at least a hundred games now that are multi-monitor capable. http://www.widescreengamingforum.com...Games_List_-_A Unlike before, you can get 1920 x 1200 resolution for as low $300 per monitor as well.

If though you don't have the money now then come back again and we can help then.

Want to see something really cool? Look at the difference in what you see between one monitior and three monitors in a number of different games. This is how not to get fragged from the side. Click on Surround Comparisons.

Most here would not recommend a
Gigabyte Video Card..
Refer to this link to see which would be better
Video Card Rating

And they would also say to switch from the Seagate HDD to a Western Digital Green or Black...depending on what you will be doing..

**** for 4k you could get anything. If i had 4k to spend on a computer i would get me some dual 3d monitors like this one here:
Amazon.com: ASUS VG236H 23-Inch 120 Hz 3D Ready Panel Monitor with nVidia 3D Vision Kit - Black: Computer & Accessories

Amazing monitor i'd say, i know people are all like "OH 3d makes your head hurt" or "don't buy it now becuase i heard there is going to be a glasses-less 3-d technology coming" NOT TRUE, 3d is AMAZING on the shutter glasses 3d, you dont hear any noise and you cant do it without the glasses, if you did (the 3ds does this) no one else could see the screen, you would have to look at the screen at a 90* angle with very little give room, and just looks aweful and can never get to 1080p like the glasses 3d can, and i dont see how it ever could if you look at exactly how they work. Anyways thats just my take.

I'm really hesitant to recommend a X58 build. The P55 is a lot more stable and gaming does NOT need a killer CPU, it needs a killer video card. If you are going to spend that kind of money, forget Nvidia - the Radeon 5970 is the fastest video card on the planet.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions so far guys. I will look into the 3d gaming stuff as well. For the build, the real only reason I am buying that way is currently I am away from home for a few months, so I have the ability to bargain shop. I don't plan on buying anything until October, I just wanna get my research done so that when i do start buying I have a good foundation set.

When you are ready, let us know. It typically only takes a two or three days to put together a parts list for you on this forum. The chances are pretty good that a parts list now will not be exactly the same as a parts list in October.

2 or three days? ive seen build lists up within the hour of the OP. =D agreed, wait till you are ready to purchase, as things in this field change on a near daily basis.

Actualy some of the best research is to watch the reccomndations here. You'll get a real good feel for what's works best with other components and who's on top.

If you spend about 2 or 3 weeks following along, right before your ready to buy, you'll have a good foundation. Quite often links are posted to reviews and you'll run into some excellent discussions on why one component may be better than another because of setup and how the unit is to be used.

I said that because quite often it is true that it does take a few days, especially if the OP keeps changing his mind (not you Tromin ). For anyone asking for advice on a new build, Don't you think that to expect a build to be vetted by the experts within a few hours of the first post is a bit unrealistic?

Not neccessarily, it depends on how many folks are on line, what time of day, how many people are posting ?'s, and how in depth these conversations get.

While this is not chat, sometimes the answers come quite fast. But we still have to remember that it can take a day or two for the mods to get to all posts.

I personally have posted a question in hopes of getting an answer almost immediately. It does happen. But if not, I usually know when to just surf the board a bit, or go to bed and check back tommorow.
