Wire management
There really wasn't any on the system in my signature that I had built. Any suggestions on things NOT to do when trying to manage it? I got these ties from Walmart at a much better price by the way.

Now go get some of these. Amazon.com: Zip Tie Mount, 1/2 X 1/2, 25 Pack: Electronics They also sell them at the home stores. It looks very clean and professional when you have all your wires bundled together, running parallel to each other and making perfect 90 degree turns.

Cool, thanks. The ties say only use up to 167 degrees F. The computer shouldn't get that hot should it?
When you say home stores do you mean Lowes and the like? |

No way, not the air temperature inside your case.

If you use the zip ties, make sure none of them get caught in the fans that you may be using.

I did some of it today as is. Nothing fancy, but as far as the zip ties, I cut off most of the end that hangs and tried to keep things away from the fans as I thought of that too.

I've always considered the cable ties as something that just get in the way when I am swapping cards/PS/drives etc... in my case. Yes, it's neater looking but I really don't care what the inside of my case looks like.

Srollin that's why my case doesn't have a window. I run my wires as clean as possible but they are free. I'm always getting in my case for something. I thought about better wire control once, but I would get annoyed having to cut the ties all the time just to pull or test a drive. Although I did have near a coronary when one of the front audio wires was being tapped by the cpu fan once.
What's really weird about it, is behind my tv and pc all my wires are zip tied tight and neat. But don't look in the pc case.

Well, mine isn't as much for neatness, as keeping the long wires away from things (fans, from possibly grounding on the case etc.) making it easier to see connections etc.

I use twist ties. This makes it easier to work on, I don't have to cut zip ties and then install new ones. I'll only zip tie things that will never need to be touched or need to be secured tighter than a twist tie will do it. I also use modular power supplies when I can.

Nothing fancy (and I cut the ends off of the rest of the ties after I took the pics), but I did this at least to get them out of the way and hopefully help air flow while preventing shorting out:

I have good plastic-coated twist ties, I don't use used ones from bread bags.

With my last build I paid extra attention to my cable management. Spent a lot of time on it and it came out pretty nice I thought. I did it more out of just to see how far I could go than anything else. Anyhow when I went to install my GTX 470 last month I had to move my top hard drive (pic before the GTX 470) since the new video card was almost 2" longer than the previous.
Well it should have been as easy as pulling out the hard drive cage from my Antec 900 case, lowering the hard drive and putting the cage back in. But since I did so much cable management, using so many zip ties and spiral wire wrap, it took me much longer to to a simple video card install. I couldn't even move the hd cage a 1/4" because it was being held in by so much ties and such. I had to clip several zip ties, move cables ....etc. Pain in the arse. Something to think about when getting serious with cable management.
