BOOTMSG is missing
I just finished building my computer and put in my windows 7 installation disk however when I got to the installion screen it could detect the hard disk but it wasn't working. It said make sure the connections are correct and that it isn't read-only. I then moved it over to my old computer as a secondary hard drive where i formatted it. It was then useable on that computer. I moved it back to my new computer and got to where the problem was last time, except this time there didn't seem to be one. It simply said to restart the computer so it booted the newly installed windows straight off the hard drive rather than the cd and then reinsert the cd to finish installation. However, when I turn my computer on, it simply say BOOTMSG is missing, press ctrl + alt + del to restart on a black screen and if i boot from the disk it just goes and starts to install windows again before telling me to restart my computer and then reinserting the cd. I have tried doing startup repair as has been suggested to other people with this problem however it just stays on the 'attempting repairs...' screen for hours until you hold down the power button. Any suggestions?

Don't expect much help with such an attitude. If the one needing help knows more than the one providing it, what need has he of help anyway?
As a matter of fact, we do need more than that. Such as, is this a PATA or SATA hard drive? Was it formatted as NTFS or FAT? When you say "it wasn't working" do you mean the Windows installer could not even find it or it did find it but was unable to write to it? Were there any specific error messages or codes? |

Download SHDIAG from Samsung and test the hard drive.
If you want GOOD help here, post full specs of everything, with brands and model numbers. If you don't feel that this is necessary, take it to a shop and have a nice day. |

It's SATA formatted with NTFS. I don't remember what it used to say when it wouldn't install, but it was when i clicked 'upgrade' which seemed the next stage in installation. It's a Samsung Ecogreen F2 hard drive.
HD5830 radeon video card. Antec 200 gaming case. OCZ StealthXStream 600W. Don't know the cd drive but is a pretty generic read/write dvd drive. do you meanput it back into my old computer as a secondary hard drive and run SHDIAG from there? |

You can run SHDIAG from the computer you are trying to install the HDD to, since you have to boot from a floppy or USB drive; you don't need Windows.
http://www.samsung.com/global/busine...rt_Shdiag.html Just run a test and if the drive comes out as healthy then post back and we can start looking at other hardware, such as memory. |

You boot it with a bootable floppy disk or USB stick. You can also download the Ultimate Boot CD and make it - one of the utilities on it is SHDIAG.

Using the Ultimate Boot CD would probably be easiest, since it seems your system already hast the CD as its first bootable device. If you use a floppy or USB key, you may need to go into the BIOS to make sure those devices have boot priority over the HDD. An ideal boot order would be: [1] CD-ROM, [2] Floppy/USB, [3] HDD.
