Formatting new drive
I'll be building a new system from scratch, using a 500Gb or 1Gb drive, either WD or Seagate.
To format it, I can use the Windows disc, but my copy is rather old now, and I was wondering if there might be any problems with a new drive of such high capacity. Would it be worth using some kind of drive formatting utility to format the drive prior to windows installation? If so, which one? Thanks. |

What is the exact version of your Windows disk? XP SP1 and newer have no capacity limits. XP SP0 has a 128gb limit.

is this drive intended as a system drive (booting an OS off of it) or just data storage? you CAN format a HDD from within windows (compuer>right click drive to be formatted>format>select filesystem>click ok/format)

No, it's the first drive in the system, to be the boot drive. My install disc is SP1.

windows will automaticly format, or give you the option, to format the drive as needed.
