Specs on the motherboard say that using DDR3 2000/1800/1600 would be with an over clock-1333 seems to be a standard speed without OC.
Rest looks good.

if you really intend to overclock, i would suggest a good aftermarket cooler. perhaps something like the thermaltake frio, or similar.

afaik the g.skill brand has been having issues, perhaps a-data or crucial. 1600 speed should be ok for some decent overclocking.

dont forget a hard drive. recommend a sata 6 wd caviar black 1tb (about 90 bucks)

Here are some aftermarket CPU Coolers I recommend and own.

This is a very good cooler but its loud.
Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Intel Core i7 compatible Hyper N 520 RR-920-N520-GP 92mm Sleeve CPU Cooler

If noise is a problem then I would get this CPU cooler its quiet and still keeps your cpu very cool.
Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus Intel Core i5 & Intel Core i7 compatible RR-B10-212P-G1 120mm "heatpipe direct contact" Long life sleeve CPU Cooler

For ram I would go with Kingston or Corsair and I love my Antec 900 case and 750 watt PSU.

*Edit* I forgot to add that the Hyper N 520 will keep your CPU cooler.

Thx Thx.....
Did forget about the HDs. Anyone using RAID to improve speed? If so, is the speed increase significant enough to double likely hood of HD failure?

Definitely buying suggested cooler. Only downside is a modest 30 bucks.

I'm still confused about memory. I have OCd before the old fashioned way....trial and error. If I can use ddr3 2000, why use 1600?

Thanks all

raid won't increase performance in any extremely noticeable fashion, but you might be better off going with a SSD for something in that area.

raid is best used as a backup service, as it was origionally intended.

besides stable bus speeds, im not entirely sure of any advantage of the highest speed ram.

Ram

Thx Thx

I'm not familiar with any new OCng software that comes with the processor and MB. Does it automatically set multipliers, dividers etc to get the right FSB/memory ratio so the system is stable? I was an IT director and have 20 yrs exp. I'm sure I'll get it once I have the new software of OCng. I want as much speed and of course a stable system. So, I'm still not sure what speed and RAM to buy.

Thanks

If you have 20 years experience, then I hope you realize that stability is NEVER guaranteed with ANY kind of overclocking.

I was gonna say the same thing. If you want fast, buy a faster processor. If you want to experiment, then you don't need a stable machine. I cringe when you mention you intend this machine for business applications; were it only gaming and burning discs, you could risk the computer locking up and producing the occasional coaster; but for business, I wouldn't risk data corruption/loss because of overclocking.
