RAM not 'useable' in windows

when windows boots up it says ram installed is 4 gb, but only 2 gb is useable

resmon says that 2gigs are "hardware reserved"

there is no onboard gfx so none is reserved for that...

i looked in bios and made sure that memory remapping was enabled.. i dont know what else to do

cpu-z says on the memory tab: "channels #: single" does that mean it is in single channel mode?

i have the two sticks in slots a1 and b1 as per the users guide.. is that incorrect?

thanks for the help, let me know if you need any more information

ok so one gig is used for windows 7, then why is it reserving 2 gigs for 'hardware'?

Hardware Devices have a high priority than system programs.. the reserved RAM for hardware is to make sure there is fast access

i read that article and it what i got out of it is that this should not be a problem on 64-bit systems and systems that have 4gb or less memory...

both of those are true for my system at this time (will be adding 4gb more of memory when the RMA comes back from newegg)

if i misunderstood, please help explain to me

there is no reason the ram should not be visible and useable in the OS. to the best of my knowledge, the only thing in a system that can reserve and hide ram from the system is onboard graphics, which he does not have.

windows 7 uses 1gb ram, this is true, but you will still see that ram in task manager.

even i feel i may be at a loss for an explaination.

I think that is incorrect. Try putting the memory in a1 and a2.

It is not possible to use all 4 gigs of RAM in a 32 bit OS.

A portion of your RAM will always be used by the OS.

32-bit and 64-bit Windows: frequently asked questions

64-bit Support - Windows 7 features - Microsoft Windows

Reading your motherboard manual will tell you with certainty where your DIMM's are supposed to go.

You can tell if your computer is recognizing all your RAM by going to My Computer and clicking on System Properties

we can rule out 1 gig is used for Windows and the other gig for hardware...but no way to know for sure unless you post your complete specs..

ok guys, i can tell alot of you have not studied the pictures, and might not fully understand what the issue is.

he has 4gb ram installed
64bit os detects all 4gb
2gb is labled 'hardware reserved'
above statement leaves 2gb for the os and programs, leaving him crippled.
