more ram issues...
build is in sig.
i bought 8 gigs of ram and originally had problems installing windows. found out i had some bad ram. so i RMA'ed one set and ran with the other set. once i figured out that i didnt seat one stick all the way everything was fine - had windows installed and running smoothly. a week later the RMA'ed sticks came back and more problems arose... i installed the other two sticks (for a total of 4 sticks, 8gb) and ran memtest... errors. Since then ive run 2 good sticks in slots a1/a2 for 11 passes over night with no errors and have those same sticks running in b1/b2 slots right now hopefully with no errors. did i get more bad ram? is something else wrong? if you need any more info just ask thanks

If you received errors while running memtest then those sticks or your motherboard DIMM slots are bad.

bad ram is the only problem that would cause this? i find it hard to believe that i got 2 sets of bad ram in a row. possible, just hard to believe
could it be causing the voltages to drop too low when all 4 sticks are installed for whatever reason? |

Bad RAM is not the only problem that would cause this. I had somewhat the same problem as you but I had an ASUS p5q Pro motherboard. It turns out that my BIOS was so old that when all memory slots were in use(4 total), it created some severe problems. This was because the earliest version of BIOS wouldn't allocate enough voltage to the RAM(or something along those lines) thus causing horrible random crashing.
The way I fixed it was to download the newest version of BIOS, create a DOS boot disk from a flash drive and then flash the BIOS with the ASUS BIOS tool. However, something you should look at would be the ASUS technical support forums for your exact motherboard and look through the threads. If there is no issue whatsoever pertaining to your problem, you might just have some bad RAM(but run memtest on each of the sticks to make sure). If it turns out you had the same problem I did, I can give you links to help you get it fixed. ASUS Support - ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- |

ive updated my bios already to the latest rev, 1302... so that shouldnt be the problem
edit: if i run 2 sticks at a time in memtest and they pass 7+ passes with no errors that means that both sticks and both slots are good correct? Last edited by dirty elf; 10-12-2010 at 04:02 PM. Reason: edit |

Whats the voltage rating for your DIMM's? If its above what your motherboard natively provides then return what you have and get lower voltage rated RAM. This way you wont have to fuss with your BIOS to get it to work.

its 1.5V this is the mobo: Newegg.com - ASUS P7P55D-E Pro LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard how do i tell if it is supplying the correct voltage? or capable of? edit: glc recommended it actually Last edited by dirty elf; 10-12-2010 at 06:20 PM. Reason: edit |

1.5 volts in not considered high. The problem is something else.

1.5v is standard for memory. i have that same exact mobo, and havent had any memory issues with it.
have you tried taking the 2 sticks you know are good and running them in the 1a/2a slots? if you get the errors again, its bad dimm slots on the mobo, if you dont, you may have really got bad ram twice in a row.

Then it does sound like bad memory...have you tried different ram combinations?
one ram that you know is good with another that you just received? or only both new rams inserted? |

with only both new RMA'ed sticks in slots a1/b1 errors, now im currently running on the two known good sticks in a1/b1 no errors on memtest 5+ passes and running smooth
