The links have a problem, but it may be newegg. I get directed to newegg, but it says the page is unavailable.

i want to build a desktop just for everday use, and for downloading and storing movies on the hard drive. i want to also use it for home theater, by watching the movies on my tv via the HDMI porn on the motherboard

this is mainly going to be for downloading and storing movies, so i can watch them on my tv via the hdmi port on the motherboard, it will also be for everday use, but not any gaming, i dont really have a strict budget but i dont want to get rediculous with price, so i would say my budget would probably be to try and stay under 800

Change the Gskill ram to A-Data, Corsair, Crucial or Kingston.(quality issues)
That motherboard is good but you should also look into Asus mobos.

Drop the CPU cooler no need unless your going to overclock..

Switch the PSU to something better like Corsair

400W should be adequate. The one you selected does not have a 8-pin CPU connector. Don't get the Corsair 430W, it's not made by SeaSonic like the rest. Good brands include SeaSonic, Antec, FSP, PC P&C, Sparkle, etc.

The experts around here generally recommend Asus boards.

How many movies? You may want up to a 2 terrabyte drive.

Which PSU you get depends largely on which graphics card you choose. You don't need a powerful card to watch a movie.

I would consider a nice quiet Corsair 550 watt PSU to power this card...Newegg.com - ASUS EAH5570/DI/1GD3(LP) Radeon HD 5570 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Low Profile Ready Video Card It has a HDMI port.

i was originally looking at at a wester digiatal 2tb drive, but i was told it wasnt as great because it was the green edition and it was only 5400 RPM. So i found this one that is 7200 RPM and black edition and 6gb/s so i decided to choose that one and if i need to ill add another one on later

that board you chose does not have SATA 6Gb/s

Green edition is used mostly for storage...but if all your going to be doing is movie watching and simple computer use...you won't notice any difference

plus its only $10 more and comes with a free cable if bought before the end of the month

The black one is a much better drive (especially for the main one.) You could add a blue, green or another black as a secondary one for storage. I prefer to use black ones all the way around, but you could save money with the others and since they wouldn't be used as much should be okay.

I would not buy a SATA 6.0 drive unless you are getting a motherboard with a SATA 6.0 controller, which that one does not. I'd get a SATA 3.0 Black.

Concur with Raiden's ram recommendation, and DDR3-1800 is a waste. All you need is DDR3-1333.

You don't need a video card, and 400 watts is plenty. Just make sure the PSU has an 8 pin CPU connector.

Any of the current onboard graphics chipsets are fine for watching movies. Remember, you can always add a card later as long as the board has a PCI-Ex16 slot.

As far as watching the movies, I doubt you'll see any difference on a 6/gbs Hdd vs a 3/gbs hdd.

Writing the movie to the drive will be faster with the 6/gbs hdd if you get a board with the sata 6.0 controller.

Yes, thats a better board for your purpose. It also supports usb 3.0, which would be excellent for a future external backup plan.

I would highly reccomend something like the 640gb WD black:

Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD6402AAEX 640GB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Use for your OS and a different hdd to load your movies to. You don't want a to have a bunch of movies loaded to your OS drive. If the OS needs reinstalled or gets garbled for whatever reason and you need to format, you could end up losing all your movie files.

The 640 is large enough to hold plenty of apps and personal files and is reasonably priced. Then I would go with some thing like this drive for your movie files:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136365
This is WD's best storage drive. designed for maximum storage and access but with quite alot of price difference compared to two 1T Blacks. This particular drive does operate at 7200 rpm.

But this drive is still fine for loading movies to also:
Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EADS 2TB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
but as noted previously, it does operate at 5400rpm.

So you are suggesting 2 hard drives, one for movies and one for everything else? Do you think I would be ok with saving some money and getting say like a 100GB hard drive for my OS and everything else, then a 1 or 2 TB for movies? Because i wont have much else on the computer other than that.

I personally would get a 500 or 640 gb Black for the OS and software, and a 2 tb Green for file storage.

Very simple. Build it with the primary drive and install the OS. Then connect the second drive and format it.

Yes, two hdds. A 100gig hdd is gonna fill up fast. I'd suggest getting nothing smaller than a 250gig for your OS and apps. The reason for the 640 gig; it's the smallest WD Black that supports 6gb/s. Although it is only like $20 bucks more for the 1T.

The drive for your movies that I suggested is 3/gbs but it is thier best drive for storage. You could save money and go with the greens or stay in the middle of the road and put your movies on all Blacks(these are great drives and the most reccomended). Although; currently right now, from what I've seen on newegg, the largest WD Black is 1.5T

The most 'bang for buck' is gonna be the WD 1Terabyte 6/gb/s WD Black.
