gaming computer... need cpu/mobo advise
So I am looking to build a new gaming computer and trying to stay below or around a 800$ limit. I live in Canada and I mostly play world of warcraft but I am looking farward to the new bioware Star wars MMO comming out in the spring. I also like to get into a few First person shooter titles as they come out.
This is what I have so far: HDD - Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA3 6GB/S 7200RPM 64MB Cache 97$ RAM - Corsair XMS3 TW3X4G1333C9 4GB DDR3 2X2GB DDR3-1333 CL 9-9-9-24 Dual Channel Memory Kit 78$ Vid Card - ASUS Radeon HD 6850 790MHZ 1GB 4.0GHZ GDDR5 2XDVI DisplayPort HDMI PCI-E Video Card 219$ PSU - Antec Earthwatts 650W Power Supply ATX12V V2.2 EPS12V Active PFC 80PLUS 120MM Fan 99$ as you can see I am already getting up to my 800$ goal with shipping and taxes etc. my question is what CPU/mobo combo would you recomend. obviously I would prefer the i5 760 with the asus p7p55d-E but I fear that will start getting pretty high price wise. so how low can I go since what I play wont fully use 4 cores is it feasible to drop down to an I3 dual core or should I stick to the quad cores for future upgradability? also I have a 250$ gift card from tiger direct (I know you dont like tigerdirect) but what parts would I be safe to buy from there? You need to add to your parts list a case, OS and optical drive.

An i3-540 should be fine. You can always upgrade later. The P7P55D-E is a very good choice.
It's safe buying good quality name brand parts from Tiger Direct. Just stay away from their Ultra and ECS crap. |
