Fairly high end gaming rig
Hi there!
I've recently been pointed to your forum and I'm really impressed with the amount of knowledge and advice you guys have on hand. It's been my ambition to build my own gaming desktop for years, but I have been used to moving location every 6 months or so for work therefore it's been much less hassle to work with 'gaming' laptops instead. Work now has me in a permanent base so it's finally come time to build my gaming dream machine! Money really isn't an issue and I have always expected the rig to come to around 2000€ (not including monitor etc). However after browsing around for ideas on parts and taking some great advice from this forum I think I can do it for a little bit less. This build incorporates some of my own wants but is also borrowed heavily from some of the other threads posted here and the suggestions therein. Warning: I live and work in France so these product descriptions are all French (but you all know the products anyway). Case: Antec Twelve Hundred tour - ATX PSU: Corsair Professional Series HX750W Mobo: ASUS P7P55D-E PRO - carte-mère - ATX - iP55 CPU: Intel Core i7 870 / 2.93 GHz processeur HDD: WD Caviar Black WD1002FAEX - disque dur - 1 To RAM: Corsair XMS3 mémoire - 8 Go : 4 x 2 Go - DIMM 240 Pri Optical: LG CH10LS20 Super Multi Blue - DVD±RW (±R DL) Video Card: ASUS ENGTX480/2DI/1536MD5 Monitor: LG W2486L-PF - Écran LCD - TFT - 24" OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64 Rig alone comes to 1782€ inc shipping, with monitor it bumps up the price by 350€ My questions are: 1) Is there anything in this build that flat out doesn't work? 2) Is there anything I can improve? 3) Is there anything that is completely useless/overboard? 4) Is the GTX 480 worth the cash as I've read some mixed reviews? 5) Are there any French forum dwellers out there who know of a better parts supplier? Thanks in advance for taking the time to view my build. e: updated with advice from members: ram to 1.5v, psu to 750 Last edited by Obermier; 11-09-2010 at 07:05 PM. |

For a single video card, 1k watt PSU is overkill. You can get by with a 650 or a 750 Corsair. ATI has some good cards for gaming also.
I believ that you want the ram in a 1.5volt setup. The rst of the rig looks good.

I would recommend a 4gb x 2 ram kit instead of a 2gb x 4.
