Hi ya,
time for a new i7 PC, pls advise.
Thank in advance .

No gaming for now.
Using dual monitor (Asus VE246).
No intention of OCing.

Here are some of the item i came up with based on what i read,
Processor-Intel Core i7-870 Lynnfield
Mobo-ASUS P7P55D-E Pro LGA
RAM-CORSAIR XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
PSU-CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W
OS-Window 7 Ultimate 64 bit
SSD-Intel X25-M Mainstream SSDSA2MH160G2R5
Optical Drive-ASUS Black
Wireless card-EDIMAX EW-7128G IEEE 802.11b/g PCI Wireless Card

Appreciate if you can advise on compatability and suggestion on Video card(for my dual monitor setup and watching HD movie).

I understand that SSD are still new and some members have not so good experience but i will be using one of my old HDD as back up.

Thank ya.

It's fine using a SSD for your OS and software, but you really should use a dedicated hard drive for your data. I'd suggest one of the WD Black drives.

Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100284L Radeon HD 5750 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Thx for the reply GLC.

You mentioned on other posts about Crucial RealSSD for performance, would the SSD i chose be as good?

Don't know anything about GPU, so this might sounds silly.....
What is the different between the GTX460 (one of your recommendation) and the one you suggested?

Any comment on my RAM?

Thx.

8gb may be overkill, depending on the use of the computer, but it wont hurt to have it. corsair is a good brand.

are you planning on SLI? you said no gaming 'for now' anyways... that particular mobo is made for the sli planning enthusiast. if you dont plan on it, you could save yourself a few bucks going with the p7p55d-e instead.

if you do plan on gaming anytime in the near future, i would reccomend the geforce gtx460 1gb, or an ati 6850. both are overkill for movies and such, but a good gamer cards, so you would not have to upgrade anything when you do decide you want to game.

I chose the 5750 because it's the least expensive card that has all the following:

Dual DVI
HDMI
DisplayPort

This is for maximum versatility for your connections. For gaming, it's not particularly strong but it's very decent for a $100 card.

The Intel SSD's have a reputation for being the most reliable. The Crucials are the only SATA 6.0 SSD's on the market right now.

I try and stick with the QVl but I suppose they will work. If you are going to overclock the ram than I guess your choice may be better, I prefer stability over overclock-ability but not to say those are going to be unstable. I prefer these for what it is worth.

I'm assuming you are refering to the RAM, do you have something else in mind?

Well, I meant the ram, but that also applies to the power supply.

Sata 6.0 SSD?

glc, you said that Crucial has the only 6.0gb/s? I was thinking about having a 64gb(ish) boot drive for a win7 pro build but I had not noticed this, so once I read it I went straight to the egg to check it out... I am curious though, why on a few of the Crucial SSD's it says:

355MB/sec (SATA 6Gb/s) 265MB/sec (SATA 3Gb/s)
-Seeminly normal for 256mb/s for Sata 3gb/s

75MB/sec (SATA 6Gb/s) 75MB/sec (SATA 3Gb/s)
-Most of the SSD's that I have looked at have faster sequential writes.

Do you think the crucial drives are worth it? This is the SSD I had been looking at,
Mushkin 60GB SSD

Other than the 6.0 Crucials, the only SSD's I really trust so far are the Intels.

you could, I don't think it will hurt anything since it is right around the corner.

Any comment?

I would get a Belkin wireless card to match your router for best results.

Psu

Happy Thanksgiving all!

Just realized i have chosen a non modular PSU and would prefer a modular unit instead.

Most members recommend Corsair, and i found this and this, but it didn't mention i7 compatible, appreciate if someone can point to a reliable unit that support i7 for my build.

Thx in advance.

Thx jdeb.

Doing some fine tuning for tomorrows check out, so here another question.
My listed SSD is out of stock and i found this cheaper SSD, Intel X25-M SSDSA2MH160G2K5 2.5" 160GB SATA II MLC that seem to be identical but without the word "Mainstream".

Appreciate if someone can advise.

The "Mainstream" is a thinner form for use in laptops. The one you picked seems to have the same specs except being a bigger size and plus it comes with a mounting tray for a 5.25 drive bay.

Can't wait much longer.....item going out of stock like firesale .

First to go was my Intel SSD.
Would glc or any members care to advise if there is any difference between "Mainstream" and without?
Here is a comparision.

The RAM is out as well
Would CORSAIR XMS 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model do the job?

Pls advise.
Thx.

Thank you very much glc, RAM just back in stock.

Any comment on the SSD without "Mainstream", it seems to be cheaper and comes with mounting kit/cable. There is no review so I can't know.
Pls advise.

Thx.

Sorry, but I'm not well versed on SSD's. I personally won't use them - yet.
