thermaltake soprano RS 101
i bought a new case and i was wondering what halfway decent motherboard and processor would fit it on a budget of around 150 bucks preferably with cooling included the case is a new thermaltake soprano RS 101 already have all the parts needed to power it soon as i have a motherboard ill start pulling the new parts off my old rig and adding to this one. but anyways, any help, links, shopping tips or whatever would be greatly appreciated, i want to be able to build something that can run up to par with games for at least 3-4 years oh and i would like the processor to be at least dual core been running celerons for far too long.

Any ATX or micro-ATX board will fit in the case. $150 for a quality motherboard and a good dual core processor is pretty low.
Please list the other parts you have. |

Biostar used to be average: not bad, but not as good as ASUS. Can't help you on the CPU, I only do Intel.

It's not low end. It's just old.
What is the motherboard brand? Asus, Abit, ASRock, ECS...? |

Thank you. I wanted to know to see if it would be suitable for a processor-only upgrade because if it was, $150 would get you a pretty darn good processor.
If you are new to the world of building, you aren't going to get very good help and advice from experts here if you give them crap like that. When you are asked questions and can't answer them fully, "I don't know" and then "How do I find out" goes a LOT farther than what you just said. Anyway - Newegg.com - ASUS P5KPL-AM EPU LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard Newegg.com - Intel Pentium E6600 Wolfdale 3.06GHz 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor BX80571E6600 Note that it only has 2 DIMM slots and will only support 4gb of ram. If you want 4 slots for 8gb of DDR2, I can't help you in that budget range, sorry. I'm sure something exists that will allow you to also buy some kind of processor, but it's going to be junk that I'd never use or recommend. |

I agree with GLC on the attitude. There are many kind, helpful, knowledgeable people here. People who give of their time to help people. When it comes to experts, GLC is one of the biggest experts here and answers a ton of questions. As far as my personal questions and many others, he IS the biggest expert. There are others who have their own areas of expertise and others who help first when they can. You would do well to show some respect and appreciation. If you don't understand WHY he asks you something, answer anyhow and you will probably find out why when he responds. If not, I am sure he would tell you what he wanted the info for to satisfy your curiosity. However, there is a different way to ask than copping an attitude to someone who is trying to help you.

i do apologise i did not mean to come off as having an attitude, i was just questioning why he wanted to know what my old board was when i stated i wanted nothing to do with it, but just so you know i found a decent board and processor and added a heatsink for the price i was looking for at one of my local computer dealers anyways, its a gigabyte 880gm-UD2H with an amd athalon IIx4 640 am3 i hear alot of people complain that amd is not as good as it used to be but it is still far better than a celeron, all costed me 140 bucks+ a little extra for thermal paste thanks for the fast responses and the helpful input even if i was a little strange about how i replied
