Build Issues...
So I got my computer last night, and built it.
The is only one problem though, it wont turn on. In fact, nothing will turn on. The only indications of the power switch being flipped on is the light (red) next to the power button on the case turns on, and the lights on the keyboard turn on. Thats the only indication. No fans, nothing turns on. I removed all but one stick of ram, removed video card, assembled out of case, re-sat CPU and heatsink with new thermal paste, and still the same issue. I cant test components on another computer because I simply dont have another computer that will take those components. What is my next step? Does this sound like a familiar issue when a certain component fails? Tim

Not even the PSU can you use from another system?

Very stupid question, but are you pushing the power button?

Well, since stupid questions are being asked: have you made sure you're connecting the case power pin to the mobo properly? Have you tried to turn it on outside the case by shortening the pins with the tip of a screwdriver?

PSU is from the other system, but its only a couple months old. I bought it in August.
Glc, I did press the power button when the mobo was inside the case and nothing happened. When I attempted the build outside the case, I did not hook those "headers" up, now that you guys raised those questions it seems I should I have done that. I am going to try right now... I shorted it! and it worked! This is only my second build, first was 5 years ago, so all though stupid questions, every little bit helps me! Thank you!. I wonder why it wasnt working the firs time in the case..hmm.. I am going to put it back togther in the case, and see what happens, thank you very much! Last edited by LA22; 11-19-2010 at 11:17 PM. |

It could be shorting on the case, there could be too much drain on the power supply, I suppose most pieces could be suspect, maybe a loose wire (to the button etc), loose ram, all sorts of things I believe would be possible. Probably the next step would be in case but with only the very basic things (Hard drive and video card) and then start adding things back one by one. However, I guess if it works with everything you can leave it for now.

Thanks for the reply. I put everything back in the case. And this time the computer is turning on. Not sure what happened before but I think I put some headers in the wrong spot. The computer sounds very unfriendly when turning on though (no beeps though)
However, now even though the computer turns on I get no post and nothing comes up on the screen. The power button does work and allows me to turn the computer on and off. It seems I am one step closer but still a couple to short. Thanks for the help so far. So to recap at this point, computer runs in case, but no posts and nothing on the screen. |

PROBLEMS with a NEW BUILD? Try This!!
Back out of the case again. Don't put it back in the case till you have confirmed video. |

Good deal. I know it can be irritating trying to figure out what of several things is causing the problem.
