My build. Need encourage, suggestions/opionions
First I want to thank everybody in advance, this is my first post and I know there's always nice and kind people willing to help newbs like me.
Also, this is my first build and I have no clue if I'm doing it right. Some points to consider beforehand: * I'm looking for the best gaming desktop I can build with... * A budget of no more than 1400dllrs (hopefully around 1200). * I live in Mexico, so I can't easily access best retailers. Here's what I've got so far (prices from NewEgg): > Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz: $294.99 > OCZ Gold 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 SDRAM DDR3-1600 PC3-12800: $140.99 > [EVGA] GeForce GTX-460 1GB: $189.99 > GigaByte GA-X58A-UD3R: $209.99 > XClio GreatPower X14S8P4 850W: $129.99 > XClio Blackhawk Black Finish: $119.99 > Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6.0GB/s: $89.99 (bare drive) > Samsung Black Blu-ray Combo Drive - Bulk SATA Model SH-B083L/BSBP LightScribe Support - OEM: $69.99 > ASUS VH232H Glossy Black 23'' Widescreen FULL HD 1080p LCD Monitor w/Speakers & HDMI: $179.99 > Gigabyte GK-K6800 Glossy Black USB Wired Std Pro Multimedia Keyboard: $17.99 TOTAL: $ 1398.90 I don't know much about building pc but imo it's all right. I have some doubts about cooling and compatibilities, so please feel free to comment. Thank You! PS. Lol...opiONIONS. Sorry XD. Last edited by XxHEATxX; 11-20-2010 at 11:32 PM. |

We don't recommend X58 for a first build. We prefer P55 and i7-8xx. We have also seen issues with OCZ ram.

as much as i love the gtx 460, and as good a card it is, when you said 'i want the best gaming machine possible' i am inclined to steer you towards a more powerful GPU, like the gtx 470 or a 5870.
the gtx 460 is an amazing card for the money, and in sli configuration it dominates even the 'mighty' gtx 480, but on its own i feel it is a very mainstream part. with a price tag of around 200 usd, there is really no better card for the money imho. actually, i find myself contradicting myself already, here is a quick rundown of my experience with the gtx 460, when placed on an i7-870/p7p55d-e pro board: Crysis: high (not highest) details/1080p = 45fps average (very few drops, very enjoyable) COD:BO :highest settings/1080p =62fps solid, never up, never down WoW: ultra/1080p/ 60fps in 25man ICC solid SC2: ultra 60pfs solid maybe this card IS plenty powerful =D

Based on your opinions I've decided to switch to socket 1156. I liked the Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD7 because of the USB 3.0, SATA3 and support for CrossFire/SLI. BUT right now there isn't any available at NewEgg or Amazon, so... any recommendation for a similar mobo?

Ok then. I changed this:
Video Card - GigaByte GeForce GTX 480 MotherBoard - ASUS P7P55D-E Pro Processor - Intel i7-875k Case - NZXT ZERO 2 Crafted Series Steel Full Tower (Black) I gtg now, ill post the prices later, but changed to Amazon because of some out of stock components in NewEgg. Tell me what you think now. TY! |

The 875k is not worth the premium over the 870, they both run at the same stock speed. The 875k is made for the overclockers and does not come with a heatsink.

OOk! I just updated my previous configuration and it's like this:
MoBo - ASUS P7P55D-E Pro ($188.04) CPU - Intel Core i7-870 ($279.99) GPU - EVGA GeForce GTX 580 ($519.99) PSU - Corsair CMPSU-850TX ($126.99) RAM - Corsair Dominator 6 GB PC3-12800 ($164.99) HDD - Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB Desktop Hard Drive ($89.00) ODD - Samsung Blu-Ray Internal SATA Drive with Lightscribe ($69.99) Case - NZXT ZERO 2 Crafted Series Steel Full Tower Chassis ($89.99) Total: $1,528.98 I decided to pick the gtx 580 but I could also go for the 470 and save some money now (and go for SLI later on). What do you think, can go any cheaper? Compatibility issues? Nice Quality? I'll save some bucks and use my old monitor and keyboard. TY! |

The GTX580 is not worth that kind of money. It's brand new and the price is still at the launch price. You do not want triple channel ram in a P55 board, that's a dual channel board.

Nvidia still does not get it. The 5970 is faster than the GTX 580 and costs less.
