Questions for new build

Hi guys, first off im new here, a friend of mine recommended me to you saying how helpful and informative this forum is. Now onto my real questions, im in the process of ordering parts for my first ever build and i have decided on everything but the motherboard (and alternatively the RAM) and the graphics card. I'd appreciate it if you guys took a look and helped me out with this little problem, any comments or tips would be greatly appreciated.

this is the first MB i chose:

ASUS M4A87TD/USB3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 AMD Motherboard
Newegg.com - ASUS M4A87TD/USB3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 AMD Motherboard

and the ram for it:

4GB kit (2GBx2), 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600 memory module
4GB kit (2GBx2), 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600 upgrades for ASUS M4A87TD/USB3 Motherboard, CT1263235 from Crucial.com

after looking around i also thought about maybe going for this one since it had much better reviews and seems to be a bit better but im not overly positive:

ASUS M4A87TD EVO AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
Newegg.com - ASUS M4A87TD EVO AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

and the ram which im pretty sure is compatible

4GB kit (2GBx2), 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600 memory module
4GB kit (2GBx2), 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600 upgrades for ASUS M4A87TD EVO Motherboard, CT1263146 from Crucial.com

and finally the biggest problem i have, the choice between a radeon 5850 and a radeon 6870

ASUS EAH5850 DirectCU TOP/2DIS/1GD5 Radeon HD 5850 (Cypress Pro) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ ATI Eyefinity
Newegg.com - ASUS EAH5850 DirectCU TOP/2DIS/1GD5 Radeon HD 5850 (Cypress Pro) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ ATI Eyefinity

ASUS EAH6870/2DI2S/1GD5 Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity
Newegg.com - ASUS EAH6870/2DI2S/1GD5 Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

ive heard many people say that the 5000 series are better and some say the 6000 series are, i really have no idea so hopefully you guys can help me out, thanks alot =)

The EVO has an additional 2.0 PCIeX16 (blue@ x16 mode, black@ x4 mode)

The memory is a great choice with either board.

The Radeon HD 6870 model is generally faster than the Radeon HD 5850 and also brings about a number of improvements such as higher tessellation performance, the gap being quite large in a few tests so I have read. It is a little louder and also runs a little hotter, a good case helps this issue. If performance is your goal, the 6870 is your choice.
