Welcome, the premium membership isn't necessary to get help here, but I understand there is premium content available to you. You might check it out during your trial time. It seems like you have given the basic info needed to get a recommendation. (Budget / uses). The budget probably isn't unreasonable for what you want to do as far as I know.
You don't intend on recording shows do you? Storing them on your hard drive? Same thing with music, do you intend to store much? I ask so people know how much hard drive to get for you. Do you have any parts already such as keyboard, mouse, monitor, operating system? If you don't (at least the monitor and maybe operating system), the budget might not be quite enough, but you will get a much better system, with better parts, better warranty etc. building one.

GLC had already moved this before he saw the other, so he closed that one. This is the one you will be able to respond on and this comment will bump it up above that one.

Would i be better off getting a bundle or is there a complete kit?

Usually a bundle comes with some less than good components mixed in.

Use two component combo's instead for MB/ CPU,RAM. For no drama (and easy advise) stick with min. 430W Antec PSU's. (Here you can stretch up to 550w and decent case for under $80.00 by shopping smart w/non-combo.)

Buy MB w/integrated graphics and HDMI. Going the AMD route is a huge savings.... especially if you don't get sucked in to needing quad core-as an upgraded CPU will be "peanuts" later on. (Asus or Gigabyte micro ATX boards are NICE!)

A-Data RAM is huge value and top quality.

WD Black hard drives are a super small added cost (above their Blue and Green drives) so only go "Black" for your OS/main drive....(at least) because they are fast.

Burner/Asus 24x.

The operating system should be Windows 7 OEM. If you are in a single computer household, dual boot Ubuntu...because if a critter attacks, you'll have an avenue to a solution, and a truly developed OS to enjoy. (My daughter has used YouTube tutorials and has created the most amazing desktop environment I've ever seen.....close to doing everything she needs to do....with things Windows can only dream of doing.)

Stickies (at the top) will be very helpful to you. Hope this helps and remember to realize...it's nothing much to upgrade if you basic motherboard/PSU choice is good.

Plenty of help around here and if you have cash in hand....Black Friday at the egg should prove to be a real boon for you!

You're welcome.

Yeah, unfortunately bundles generally are things that they put together to keep the price down, to get rid of stuff they aren't selling (like grab bags do), or what the manufacturers are pushing or giving deals on. In fact, I think at times at Newegg, they throw in bonuses that might not work together. They even have a disclaimer as they don't have sales people there who know the merchandise real well. However, they have great prices, are good at returns and carry a ton of stuff. If you need technical advice, you are better to come here or go to a local shop (MAYBE depending on how much they know).

Come here. Local shops want to get rid of their stock, so their advice isn't always the best.

I got my MOBO and CPU on a combo deal from the egg for $146.
That's $73 for each item, not bad imo. The Phenom II X2 didn't unlock with success, but the quality and performance otherwise has been excellent.
I guess it depends what combo deal you get. A big 'Everything' combo is more often than not, not everything you'd really want.
Cases that come with PSUs, is probably not going to have the PSU you'd be looking for.
There are and will be some good combos on newegg though.

If you're a bargain shopper, it will take patience and time.

Thanks Folks,

I Will probably go with a dual core to start with then jump up to quad a little later on.I have a single core right now on this computer and it does all we need it to.
I will be doing surfing and such on the build so i may go with dual core.We do not save anything but pictures and music on the one that we use now so going to dual core will seem like greased lightning i am sure..

What mother board would let me upgrade to a quad core later on if needed?

That would be the only factor if i get a high power psu right?

thanks booger

The only thing you need a high power PSU for is gaming video cards. Onboard video and basic video cards are happy with the 400 watt range. All Intel 1156's and AMD AM3's are quad core capable.

No, that motherboard that jdeb recommended does not have HDMI. This one does:

Newegg.com - ASUS P7H55-M/CSM LGA 1156 Intel H55 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

You can always add a video card later if you find the need for one.

Ok Folks been working 12hr shifts the last 4 days. Thanks for all the help.

Would i be better off getting a board with no video card and add a card in case we do decide to play some games.Would the aftermarket card run the tv better and have all if the ports needed to hook up to the tv?

Also the cards say 8gb ram and 16 gb should i go ahead and stuff as much as i can in there at the onset of the build?

would the card glc recomended Newegg.com - ASUS P7H55-M/CSM LGA 1156 Intel H55 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
be able to add as much as a full size card? Also would i be able to add a video card later if needed to this one?

thanks

Honestly, if you are looking for budget building, you would be fine with getting 4GB of RAM. Rarely will you see any program use more than 4GB of ram. I'm using Photoshop and Dreamweaver and it still only uses about 3GB (multiple layers for Photoshop). For your build, I'd stick with 4GB, as any more would probably be a waste.

It all depends on what you want the computer to do. If you want it to do serious gaming (high frame rates, etc) then you will probably need a dedicated card. However, if I were you I would try out the onboard video first. If it doesn't satisfy everything you need, then you can always add a card on later.

There is one PCI-E slot on the board, so yes, you can add a video card later on if you feel that the onboard video is inadequate.

Hi all getting closer,Thanks for all the help!!!!

If i go with glc's micro board i will have to get a micro case right. Will that cool good enough? Also i was reading in another post that the bigger atx boards cool better also.Is this a real problem. Also are there atx boards with hdmi.I would not be against spending a little more on the board if needed.

thanks

No, you don't have to get a micro case; a micro-ATX board will fit just fine in a normal ATX case. Point in fact, unless you're really cramped in terms of space, buy a mid or full tower; thus, making future upgrades much easier. Ventilation will also be way better.

I'm not sure if you meant to send a link concerning the case you were looking at, but that's a link to a Western Digital Caviar Black, 640GB HD. That hard drive is an excellent choice.

That's fine, I don't mind it at all.

For a case, it's really up to personal choice. Pretty much every case made will do the job. Some just have more fans and more space than others. If space isn't a factor (i.e. the space where the case is going to go), I'd recommend a good mid-tower case. I think Antec, Coolermaster, and Thermaltake have some decent cases for fairly cheap.

As for a PSU, Corsair (except the CX 'Builder' Series), Seasonic, and Antec are good brands. If you plan on adding a decent video card, I'd get one at around 650W.

Is there any reason you want an I5-650 over an I3-540 dual-core? Or is it mainly the HT that you are looking at?

No i ment to put the I3 on there.I was looking at the i 5 just to see what the differance was thanks for catching that for me.

The case is going to be the hard one but i guess if that is my worst problem in this whole set up i will be doing just great!!!

thanks

What is your budget for a case and power supply? Will this one work?

Newegg.com - Antec Sonata III 500 Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply

By the way - this motherboard has had a price reduction and is now a slightly better board for $5 less than yours:

Newegg.com - ASUS P7H55-M PRO LGA 1156 Intel H55 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Ok folks i have been doing a little bit of reading.Since i will be putting movies on this thing.maybe at a little later date should i go ahead and get another hard drive? What kind and how would be the best way to set it up?Should i get it now and have it all hooked up at the same time or can i add it at a later date? How would i do this if i added it at a later date vs adding it now?

What size and brand would be a good one?Should i stick with the western dig black?

thanks
