Netbook Build: Wait, hear me out!

Ok, technically I'm not 'building' a PC, but I was shopping for a small notebook for my wife and this ACER 1215N got good reviews and has been recommended by some in here:

Amazon.com: ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1215N-PU17-RD 12.1-Inch Netbook (Red): Computer & Accessories

The question / hangup I have is there is no optical drive and my wife likes to watch DVDs on business trips etc. Anybody have any notion about this model and (1)how much cost it would take to add an optic drive, (2)if it would be a difficult process to add, and (3)or if its even possible?

Thanks

You have to use an external USB optical drive. Not difficult: just plug and pray.

Yeah, most of us (I would say) with netbooks have slimline DVD drives. Depending on your hard drive space and needs, I also recently bought one that has the DVD drive and hard drive all in one. They make ones with Hard drives installed, but I bought the version without one and installed my own Western Digital Black laptop drive. (Bought new for this that is). You save money that way, get a better warranty on the drive and can choose what brand, type and size. I would have sprung for a 1TB, but didn't find one in the Western Digital Black.

Here is an example of the drive: (I got a Lite On too, but wanted one with Lightscribe, so this is not the same that I got).

Newegg.com - LITE-ON 8X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 6X DVD+R DL 8X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 5X DVD-RAM 8X DVD-ROM 24X CD-R 24X CD-RW 24X CD-ROM 2MB Cache External Ultra Slim DVD/CD Writer Model eNAU108-111

Here is the combo external hard drive / DVD burner/ USB Hub. I got mine from Amazon a month or two ago. Now there is a rebate. Shucks.

Newegg.com - Apricorn AND-DVDRW Aegis NetDock 3 in 1 Netbook/notebook Docking Station

Note, this is the one that has no hard drive included. You would have to get one.

I use a slimline Rosewill external DVD burner with my Asus EeePC (highly recommended over anything Acer makes, by the way).

I don't know if you noticed, George (probably did), but although the OP said Acer, the link is for an Asus.
