Getting Time For That Upgrade

My current set up just isnt cutting it anymore. Video Card is overheating while playing Starcraft 2. And thier is a few games on the horizon that my computer will probably struggle with. Will be buying the parts one at a time starting with the Power Supply -> Video card then Mobo, Ram and Processor. My budget is ~600(not trying to spend much more than that but since im going to space it out i can pull it off IF i need to). I'm Not really in the need of a i7 have been looking at the i5's. Figure once i get into the 1156 socket i can always upgrade to an i7 at a later date if needed. Have no idea which mobos are good and im looking at ATI 5000 series cards. As far as Powersupply... I think i have one picked out

Newegg.com - Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V Ver.2.2 / EPS12V version 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply

Appreciate any advice

Current setup is:
e8400 Wolfdale
Gigabyte ep45-ud3p
Diamond 4670
Antec basiq 500 (think thats the one anyway)

I wont be replacing any of the cd-drives etc. as thiers not really aneed Would prefer to keep the same case so hopefully i wont have to modify my case (Antec 300) to much for a Beefier video card to fit.

Heres what I'm looking at for the others. Not sure if ill need new ram or not. I currently have

If this will be compatiable is the deciding factor. I dont believe it is with the mobo i picked out but if someone knows a good socket 1135 mobo that WILL work with this that would be great.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115215 - CPU

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102898 - VideoCard

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128412 - Mobo

I am willing to go with a AMD Processor but seeing as i know very little about intels already i don't really feel good about picking out a Processor - Mobo for a AMD socket.

All you need is a stronger video card. Your motherboard, processor, and ram are fine for any game out there. The Basiq 500 should be able to handle anything but a real high-end video card.

You are correct. It will play any game out there that i would even bother playing. But i got a feeling Guild Wars 2 is going to kill my current set up. Figured id Upgrade to something solid in advance and somewhat future proof my pc . I appreciate that link so ill pick my video card from there. Any suggestions on which chipsets i should aim for with a intel or amd cpu?

As far as powersupplies go. Would my current PS handle this
Newegg.com - MSI N450GTS CYCLONE 1GD5/OC GeForce GTS 450 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
Plus lets say a i5?

Thanks in advance.

Get the video card for now, I think you may be very pleased and be able to hold off upgrading everything else for quite a while. I'd go stronger than a 450GTS. The video card is THE MOST IMPORTANT component for gaming. I wouldn't get anything less than a GTX460 1gb - and I'd go even higher if you can afford it. GTX470's and higher are a bit rough on PSU's, so I'd go ATI if you go higher than a 460.

Send a message via Skype™ to Nikon
the gtx 460 1gb will run sc2 on ultra (in my case with 0 lag or stutters but i also have it backed by an i7-870) assuming your cpu can keep up. sc2 is probably one of the more overall demanding games, but if it plays 'ok' on your current setup, the 460 will be a great upgrade.

ps: to help reduce overheating, head over to the blizzard forums and search for 'frame rate cap'
