Please let me know if these components are compatible. If not, then please give me an alternative. Thanks Edit: Also, please let me know if I am missing something that I need (besides monitor, keyboard, speakers, or a mouse). Last edited by timmer7000; 11-30-2010 at 12:25 PM. |

short sweet and to the point:
avoid OCZ anything. for ram your best bet is a-data, corsair, or crucial. the soundcard is really unneeded, onboard sound has good quality and that particular mobo is 8 channel as well. the recommended HDD for gaming is a western digital caviar black. you do not need the gigabit network adapter, the mobo has built in gigabit. make sure you get a case (that will fit that card) other than those, i would say you have a winner.

Your original post got caught in the spam filter for some reason.
1. The Gene is a micro-ATX board and doesn't support USB 3.0 or SATA 6.0. I'd recommend a P7P55D-E. 2. Recommended brands of ram are Corsair, Crucial, Kingston, and A-Data. Other brands do not have consistent quality and/or support issues. 3. Build it without a sound card and use the onboard audio. You can always add a card later if you aren't happy. 4. You don't need an Ethernet adapter, today's motherboards come with it onboard. Besides, the one you chose is for a laptop. 5. We do not recommend Seagate drives at this time, look at the WD Black drives. If you get a proper motherboard, get a SATA 6.0 model. Now, the GTX580 is not worth the price at this time. It's brand new and you can get a stronger card for less money. This will blow that 580 completely out of the water: Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100280SR Radeon HD 5970 (Hemlock) 2GB 512 (256 x 2)-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card The 580 is really no better than the 480, which can be had for about 75 bucks less than the 580. |

HDD is Hard Disk Drive. I apologize for assuming that everyone knows the acronyms we throw around so often.
as far as a case, most cases listed as a 'Mid-Tower' should work fine, anything larger will work as well. my personal favorite is the Antec 1200, but it is also somewhat expencive. Perhaps an Antec 900. LianLi is also a really good brand of case. |

Any ATX case will work with any ATX board. Cases all pretty much work so most of your decision comes down to what looks good to you, cooling and a few other relatively minor factors.
I see you have a budget of about $1800. Which applications do you plan on running?
