Base it on this thread:
New Build Questions Downgrade the processor to an i5-760 and get a GTX460 1gb from Asus or EVGA. |

I'm still new to processors and stuff...but how is going from a dual core i3-550
to a i5 750 quad core a down grade? is the faster processor speed of the dual core really that much better a quad core at a slightly slower speed? Anyways, to the OP..check my thread. Mine comes in at $889 for comparison. |

The SATA 3.0 drive will work fine, and that's what you should use if you aren't getting the U3S6 addon card. If you aren't going to get the addon card and run SATA 6.0, you might as well get the P7P55D-E LX to save some bucks.
You have shown 2 ram links and no CPU link. Alvehyanna, please don't confuse the issue. Please ask questions in YOUR thread. Anyway, I was referring to the i5-760 as a downgrade from an i7-870, not an i3. I am recommending a quad core to the OP here because it will help with Photoshop, and his budget won't handle an i7. |

wasn't trying to confuse the issue. I just took it to mean that he should downgrade the processor he linked. Didn't realize you meant the one in the link you provided since I hadnt looked at your link to see there was an actual system there.
I see you are highly knowledge and already you have helped me just by reading your numerous posts. I asked an honest question based on a lack of understanding. In the Faqs it even said for gaming, a dual core is enough and that a quad core isn't that much help - I was simply trying to further my knowledge, the same reason we all all here. But thanks fso much for all your help, I do appreciate it Last edited by alvehyanna; 12-01-2010 at 02:27 AM. |

I also was not trying to give you a hard time - I'm more than happy to try to answer any and all questions. However, there is a degree of forum etiquette that needs to be followed, and when you are posting in other people's threads you need to be aware of the whole situation.
I know, I may have confused the issue myself, but yesterday we had several requests for build recommendations that almost mirrored each other. I posted the list in the first thread I worked on, then to save time I simply linked to that thread for the other requests and posted recommended modifications. You can't simply copy and paste a whole post without breaking all the links, or I would have done that and edited accordingly. |

Thanks, didn't realize I linked the ram twice. and I totally followed the downgrade from the i7 in the link no confusion on my part.
I meant to link this cpu. Cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115067 mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131634 switching the motherboard saved $10 so I may go that way. |

Just spent some more time researching,
I think I may stick with the deluxe mobo so I can upgrade in the future. Newegg.com - ASUS P7P55D Deluxe LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard but I can save some money if I switch to this case, I really like the look of it, but was wondering if everything is compatible?: Newegg.com - Sunbeam AC9B-T Transparent Clear Acrylic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case |

That case should be fine, but read the reviews thoroughly and consider a Corsair HX series power supply - it's modular. Much less messy inside that way. If you are going to SLI a pair of GTX460's you need at least 750 watts.
Newegg.com - CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-750HX 750W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply The P7P55D Deluxe is an excellent choice, but just be aware that in order to use SATA 6.0 and/or USB 3.0, you will need to get the U3S6 card.
