What is your budget and what applications do you plan on running? Are you in the USA?
You will also need to choose a graphics card, an OS and an optical drive. Instead of two 500 gig drives, get a single 1 TB WD Black drive. My guess is you are thinking of using RAID O...it's not worth the increased chance of failure and the minor speed increase over a single Black drive. If you were thinking RAID 1, then get a proper external backup drive instead. Get two sticks (4 gigs total) of DDR3 1333, 1.5 volt RAM. The Corsair brand you chose is a good brand. If you want the most reliable boards then go with ASUS. Do you think you ever want to run two graphics cards? Is AMD over Intel an arbitrary decision or is there a reason? Both are fine brands. A 450 watt PSU may be underpowered depending on which graphics card you choose. Corsair is an excellent brand. Don't go through TigerDirect. They have caused others here in the past quite a few problems. I prefer Newegg and Amazon. Some others here prefer Newegg.

I was hoping to stay in the $500 range and I live in the USA.
The computer is basically for surfing the web and school work, possibly some gaming. Also, I already have a monitor, keyboard, and mouse |

It's really tough putting together a computer for only $500 using quality parts. Were it me I would buy a refurbished Dell. Others though will have some ideas.

The only Intels I can think of that are cheap enough to fit a $500 budget is some of the older Pentium Dual-Cores such as the Pentium E6600 or Celeron E3400. However, those seem to be a little outdated. With a budget of $600-$700, I know a few of the gurus around here could get a good setup.
AMD I have heard is the way to go on a budget, but I'm not an AMD guy so I can't really say much. |

What are you planning on doing on this computer? Gaming? Video editing? Just surfing, digital media, etc?
Knowing what you want to do will greatly impact the parts you purchase. |

If you are set on AMD, then there are some others around here who are better at compatibility for AMD than I am.
If you are looking for building a computer for around $650-$750, and want Intel, the Intel I3 is a good choice. (However, I am not trying to sway you either way AMD or Intel). Look at something like the i3-540 and the Asus P7P55D-E motherboard. I'm going to be building my cousin a desktop with that combo and it only comes out to about $650 after shipping. Of course, the graphics card is not the best for gaming; she only uses it for surfing the web, watching yt videos, etc. |

If you are going to be gaming, you need to spend as much as you can possibly afford for the video card.
That optical drive you chose is only a rom drive, it's not a burner. Full DVD burners are the same price, and also you can find them with free shipping. |
