Fan still needed?
I am rebuilding from this configuration:
Gigabyte P35-DS3R Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @2.66 GHz XFX 8800GTS 320 MB DDR3 WD Caviar S# 16 320 GB SATA Antec Sonata III 500 W PSU Zalman CNPS9500 AT to this (keeping the 8800 GTS for the moment): Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield ASUS P7P55D Deluxe LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel MoBo Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 SATA WD Caviar S# 16 320 GB SATA (from old system) Corsair XMS3 DDR3 RAM 8 GB Antec Earthwatts EA750 750W PSU Question is do I still need the Zalman fan? |

Use the one that comes with the CPU then the CPU warranty is keeped intact. If it seems too load or not containing temp then use the Zalman.

a cpu running at stock speeds should be cooled just fine with the stock cooler, unless the airflow is extremely limited. also, and as stated, using a different cooler voids warranty, although im not sure how an oem would find out you didnt use it. (assuming your smart enough to smear the thermal compound around on the heatsink before you RMA it, and they dont use some kind of chemical test to see if there is a different brand thermal paste, but why would they do that??)
