First time build for audio production and general use
Hi guys,
This is my the first time building a PC so I wanted to get an expert opinion on my components. I will be using this PC for.. *Audio production/recording with FL Studio, Reason, external audio interface (soundcard) etc. *Photo editing *Light video editing *Some gaming (I want to be able to run all games, but I'm not too concerned with "max settings") But, I want to be able to upgrade my video card in the future if need be. Case: COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Computer Case PCU: Intel Core i7-950 3.06GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Mobo:ASUS Sabertooth X58 ATX Intel Motherboard RAM: 8GB 2x CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Video: SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100283VX-2L Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ Eyefinity Power: Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive DVD: SAMSUNG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE Model SH-S222L LightScribe Support I will be installing Windows 7 64 bit and using dual monitors (one HDMI and one DVI). Do these components work? Am I missing anything? Is anything overkill? (can i save some money anywhere?) Since I will be doing live recording, I want to make sure the case will run quiet..anyone have any experience or suggestions there? Any further comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Last edited by Sword Face; 12-08-2010 at 09:06 PM. |

For audio production: FL Studio, Reason, Komplete, etc.
Photo and Video: Photoshop and Sony Vegas My newegg cart is currently at ~$1,200. and that's including a keyboard and monitor. I want to stay around there, and definitely not go over $1,500. |

Your motherboard and processor is overkill, and your video card is not strong enough for an effective gamer.
Look at an Asus P7P55D-E board and an i7-870. If you want 8gb ram, get a single 4gb x2 ram kit. The X58 platform is known for its fussiness, it's for enthusiasts who like to tweak things. The P55 is more mainstream. DVD burners are cheap enough to not make much difference, but Samsung is not known for its reliability. |

Thanks glc, very helpful.
I'm not too concerned with gaming, I do most of that on my xbox so I don't need anything high-end. Just enough to let me play Dragon Age and Diablo 3 when it comes out. Do you have any suggestions for a video card that would work in my setup around $200-300? Thanks again. |

That will get you a Radeon 6870.
FYI, if you DO decide to get the X58 anyway, you should use triple channel ram, not dual channel. |
