General Purpose Family Computer

This is a fabulous forum with great advice. Thanks for all your help.

I will be building a general purpose computer for a young family, with elementary school age children. Web surfing, email, MS Office. Lots of pictures and a little video editing. No Gaming.

Build budget is $1,000, including OS and monitor. Here are the components I picked.

Newegg.com - ASUS P7H55-M PRO LGA 1156 Intel H55 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Newegg.com - Intel Core i3-540 Clarkdale 3.06GHz 4MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 73W Dual-Core Desktop Processor BX80616I3540

Newegg.com - A-DATA Premier Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model AD3U1333C2G9-2

Newegg.com - LIAN LI PC-A05NA Silver Aluminum ATX Mini Tower Computer Case

Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply

Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Newegg.com - Sony Optiarc Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA CD/DVD Burner - CD / DVD Burners

Newegg.com - Rosewill RCR-IC002 74-in-1 USB 2.0 3.5" Internal Card Reader w/ USB port / Extra silver face plate

Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - Operating Systems

Will these work well together? All of my previous builds have been in larger cases (mid and full tower). Will this mini tower cause any problems?

about the only thing that might cause a problem that i see is the rosewill card reader. knowing their reputation and (i know they arnt that great but....) reviews, i would suggest a different brand.

everything else looks great imo.

Rosewill card readers work fine. I have a few of them around here.

The 650 watt PSU is big overkill for a system without a video card. I'd recommend something more like an Antec Earthwatts 380 Green. The rest of the build looks excellent. However, a black optical drive is going to look a bit strange in a silver case in my opinion.
