Proposed Configuration

Hello All,

I'm very new to computer hardware( I've never built my own machine). My friend recently gave me his OLD pc & i thought I'd refurbish it.

I thought I'd use the old case & the power supply & the DVD Writer.

I will buy the following:
Processor: AMD AM3 x4 640 3.0Ghz Athlon II Quad Core
Motherboard: ASUS M4A88TD-M AM3 880G DDR3 Motherboard
RAM: [Kingston 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM (Kit of 2)] x 2 = 8 GB
Storage: Seagate SATA 1TB HDD

I'll have someone build it for me but what I'd like to know is:
1) Do i need to thing about any other hardware component?? (Do i worry if my case will accomodate the motherboard)
2) Is this a decent configuration (Are these parts compatable with each other). (In Melbourne, Australia - this is would cost me $395.00)

I dont want to go to a computer shop & ask the sales assistant any of these questions cause I know he might have an agenda of his own.

PLEASE HELP ME!! {Its my 18th birthday next week & I thought it would be an amazing birthday gift for myself }

Thank you very very much for your help!

Regards,

Ro

We need the specs of the old computer - with brands and models including the power supply.

I'd also suggest a Western Digital instead of a Seagate.

You will need a 64 bit operating system with 8gb of ram. Why are you putting that much in anyway?

If you intend on doing any gaming, you need a video card.
