Welcome. If you want a real gaming system, you will probably be set back $1000 at the minimum and probably more. The video card itself will set you back hundreds of dollars and just may be the most expensive part. (In essence it SHOULD be with a gaming system).

When it comes time to buy, Newegg is much better than Tiger Direct (which makes cheap, crappy, parts sound like the best thing since sliced bread). They do also carry good parts, but I doubt they beat Newegg's prices and many of us have had good luck at Newegg. The same can't be said with Tiger.

Thanks for the reply! but i don't think i'll get 1000$ dollars, xD probably like 200$. i bought this laptop for 378$, 1.6GHz 250GB HDD and 3GB of ram, so..
this was just like something i would work on over like 2 years, because i have absolutely No way of making money, my mom doesn't let me do anything, lol.
i was wondering, if i were to use these parts, what else would be a good fit? i know you're probably like, this kid is an epic fail, and if he buys all these cheap crap it'll break down within 3 months, well.. if that does happen, then oh well. it was fun while it lasted, and it'll give me something to do.
Edit: Will a Micro ATX work with the case?

Welcome to PCMech.

You can still upgrade. You just have to make sure that whichever graphics card you choose does not exceed your power supplies ability to power the card. Either that or find a manufacturer who makes a more powerful power supply that is compatible with your computer and then upgrade your graphics card.

I think that learning how to do the online research and installing a new power supply would be a good learning experience.

I realize you don't have the money yet, so save up. You could offer to do odd jobs for others to make that money. There are plenty of people out there, especially elderly people who are looking for someone who is willing to work hard to help them out with yard work or moving junk and so forth. Get the word out to everyone you know and go door to door offering your services. Doing this is also a good life experience.

Yeah, i would go out and try to like shovel, etc.. but my mom, doesnt let me go around the block, so i doubt she will let me go door to door, and i know shes just trying to keep me safe, but i need money to do this.. so basically,
only money i ever get..
Christmas = like 50 bucks
a month later,
Birthday = like 50 bucks.
So, its gonna take like 3 years just to create this computer, and by the time i get everything done.. it's probably gonna be a piece of crap.. so i don't know if i should just wait until i can get a job, so i have a steady amount of money coming in so i can create a decent build, but this 1.6ghz computer just aint gonna cut it if i want to play games with my friends..

Yes, indeed. You're not missing out on anything by not being able to play the latest games.

Don't buy your computer in pieces. Prices and technology changes too rapidly. Have you thought about buying a used PS3 or X-Box? Those will give you internet access as well.

I think the best thing to do is to save your money until you can afford a basic gamer made from reliable parts. Don't buy it piecemeal. It only makes sense to design you a computer when you have enough money to buy the entire computer, because as I said earlier, technology and prices are always changing.

I was 12 years old at one time and remember how slowly time went back then. Try not to think about having a new computer. Instead try to appreciate what you do have such as the people in your life such as your and friends. In the big picture, it's not so much the things in your life that creates happiness, it's all the other things that are not things that brings happiness.

You don't have to off and leave just because you feel like you won't be able to do anything right at this moment. And don't wish that you had a job too much. Once you get into the work force, you will soon realize that you wish you didn't have a job.

I know what it's like having to wait to build your own computer. It took me from age 16 to my current age to finally build my own computer. I know it's hard to wait, but you will be thankful that you waited in the end.

Why not just stick around and try to learn as much as you can in the meantime? There are plenty of knowledgeable people around here that you could learn loads from. Then when it comes time to finally build your computer, you'll already be like one of the experts.

oShadowkun, you have a handful of abilities that you can start cultivating right now when you're 12. Computers ain't everything. Use this time in which you have no money to develop other talents you have. For the most part, you need little to no money to develop such talents. Are you good at drawing? Then get a sketchpad and some pencils and draw. Have musical inclinations? Learn to play an instrument. Are into sports? Then play. And so forth. Find what you're good at and hone those talents. Be grateful that you have no money and so are spared from wasting your life playing games that profit you nothing and leave you with even less.
