Belated Christmas Build
Building a budget desktop gaming PC for brother
Parents are supplying funds and would like to keep it low ($500-$800) Peripherals are needed, but he can make do with what we have for now other than a monitor. Here's the list I have compiled so far: Mobo: ASUS P5Q Pro Turbo CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E7500 GPU: EVGA GeForce GTS 450 RAM: G.SKILL DDR2 800 4GB(2x2GB) HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 750GB PSU: Corsair 600W Builder Series Case: Antec Two Hundred S Wifi card and optical drive: supplied by me The monitor is up in the air, but he may be paying for that himself. I would appreciate a check on the parts and any suggests for better value parts. Thanks for your time in helping me with this.

Don't forget you will need an OS. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit should be fine.

I forgot to mention that we've already got the OS covered.
Thanks a lot for the suggestions. With the new items, the price has come down a lot, and they all look like really good items. Though, I have to ask, I'm using G.skill ram on my own PC right now, so why do you say you wouldn't build with it? Either way, here's the updated list: Mobo: ASUS P7P55D-E LX LGA 1156 CPU: Intel Core i3-540 Clarkdale GPU: HIS H577FK1GD Radeon HD 5770 RAM: CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333 HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 750GB PSU: Antec EarthWatts 650W Case: Antec Two Hundred S OS: Windows 7 64-bit Wifi card and optical drive: supplied by me |

Because G.skill has had lots of issues lately. It's not necessary for the whole batch to be bad, I'm sure a good number of the sticks will never have a problem, but are you willing to take that chance?

Alright, thanks. I didn't realize they were having problems. I was still under the impression that they were a good brand. Well, anyways, it's off the list. Thanks again for all the help.

G.skill ram is having major compatibility issues specifically with Intel P55 chipset boards - which that Asus is.

Huh, that's weird, because my board has the P55 chipset. Hope I don't run into any problems. But, this thread isn't about my comp, it's about my brother's. I really appreciate all you guys giving your input on this.
