gtx 470 aftermarket cooler?

rather than watercooling because of the lack of space for a rad in my pc, ive decided just to stick aftermarket air coolers in place,

im after a multifan heatsink cooler for my gtx 470 that can keep noise down but perform well especially with 3d games/films
and that has enough space for another in sli mode

any suggestions?

idk about artic cooling, but many aftermarket vga sinks seem to come with poor quality thermal tape for the small memory sinks. i might suggest getting some of that just in case. it may appear strong enough, but adhesive like that tends to become weak as it heats up, and the small sinks can possibly fall off.

lol take a look at this chart for the termalright shamman vga cooler

You don't get much out of overclocking graphics cards. A 10% increase is considered good. If overclocking a card is going to involve expensive fans or a water block then it might be more cost effective to sell the card you have and spend that same money on a more powerful card.

Benchmark Results: Thermal And Acoustic Performance : Thermalright's Shaman VGA Cooler: The Quiet Giant?
The Shamman fan is very loud and doesn't have the additional chip heatsinks. I have not encountered a problem with the thermal adhesive supplied but it is not a bad recommendation. I am pretty good about cleaning the surfaces prior to applying the adhesive.

A 3 decibel change is barely perceptible. A 5 decibel change is clearly noticeable. This table should give you some sense of the difference. Decibels (sound pressure) is measured on a logarithmic scale where a change of ten is a hundred times difference.

cheers for the db chart, but if it the cooler already mentioned that has 3 fans rather than a single fan thus not needing to rev as much will decrease sound and heat more efficiently?

Decibel (Loudness) Comparison Chart
I am not sure about that chart, I am not sure how loud the difference is in 3 decibels. All I now is it was noticeably louder and disappointing so much that I returned (Shamman) it.

3 decibels louder is TWICE as loud.

I was going by the "Perceptions of Increases in Decibel Level" chart towards the bottom that says "Barely Perceptible Change, 3dB"

nikon the results in the link regarding the thermalrigh shaman vga cooler blows the other coolers out of the water at both heat reduction and sound! therefore im super impressed.

my only concern is what jdeb stated, what about the additional chip heasinks?

you could buy heatsinks and thermal adhesive for the chips if you are sold on the Shamman.

$5.99
VR003 · Spare Parts · Cooling · Arctic Cooling

use what the Shamman doesn't supply, I think you will only need the little ones. You can download the instructions to see what I am talking about, click on the support tab from the link above.
