Hmmmmm.
Well, would you mind maybe letting us know your budget and intended uses, as well as any other specifics you may want (such as wanting a Sandy Bridge processor)?

Wait a couple months for the early adopters to report what works well and what doesn't.

Right, any reports now would be just bragging.

Wait awhile until prices start heading down from the initial release price, then check reviews and see what is in your budget. Try to leave room for upgrades if you can (more ram slots, etc).

We just built a rig with the new sandybridge CPU and ASUS P8P67 PRO coupled with an ATI 5870, played 3 games on it to get a feel or to see any advantage over the 870 but I am seeing nothing. Same frame rates same over all performance, I am sure when we benchmark the new rig it will show some performance boost but to me its all pretty much hype and marketing, there are way too many processors with very similar performance being relesaed by both AMD and Intel that are not by any means breakthroughs. Nothing exciting at all.
Just my 2 cents.

Your 2 cents is worth its weight in gold on this one. Thank you!
Please let us know if you have any compatibility and stability issues! Might you be saying if you don't plan on using the onboard video and a H67 board, it's really not worth it at this time? |

that would depend on the application. For gaming no I dont feel its a reasonable upgrade path as the prices are pretty on par only difference is the 2 unlocked chips they offer at a very reasonable price.
For people doing video encoding there is a slight gain and its not as big a jump as it is from a C2Q Q9450 to say an i7-860 in this case the i7 is almost twice as fast at video encoding with certain apps where as the 2600k is less than 25% faster than the i7-870 (or 875) although I do like the thought of the H67 boards with very limited or NO overclocking ability...so that helps

To answer your question glc, I ordered a ASUS P8H67-M LE and i5-2300 I have to say unlike the P67 where I saw no improvement over the P55, the onboard video performance on the H67 is very impressive compared to the H55-57, it works extremely well with windows 7 without a video card, Blu-ray and other media playback is great at 1920 x 1080, you still not going to game properly with it though, but it did load WOW nicely at low-med setting.

Return the single ram module and exchange it for a dual channel kit, or buy another identical module.

I don't think you'll need that much power. I think 600W will be plenty for that setup.

I know the Sandy Bridge just came out and the consensus is to wait for prices to come down, stability reports to come in, etc.
What if my current rig (an Intel e2180 OC'ed from 2.0ghz to 3.2ghz) is about to give up the ghost? Should I look into the Sandy Bridge? I was thinking of getting the i5 2500K. Also, for the build listed above, would a Corsair 450W PSU generate enough power? I'd like to reuse mine if possible. |

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Corsair+...&skuId=1623579 Nvidia recommends a minimum of a 550 watt PSU for a GTX570. |

If you are going to overclock, get the 1600 ram.

The February 2011 issue of MaximumPC ran 23 benchmarks on the Sandy Bridge comparing it to six other high end CPU's. If you average the benchmarks, it comes out a close tie to the i7-980X which retails for around $1000. The i-7 2600K Sandy Bridge retails for around $320. That's a nice price break if you want or need a screaming fast CPU.
What I find interesting and a little dissappointing is that you will not be able to get more than about a 5% overclock on these new chips because of changes in their architecture. It's quite a good article if you are interested in the details. http://www.maximumpc.com/article/fea..._washes_ashore

Please don't do that. There is nothing these special additions can add to a clean install of Windows that would be worth anything. When I try to google either, all I get are warez and cracking sites, no real legitimate information. You will want to go with Windows 7 64bit to use a full 4Gbs or more of ram. Buy a Windows 7 OEM system builders disc with your components.

You can certainly do that. Newegg is the preferred store but by no means the only reliable one.
