Need help with video editing system
I needed to upgrade my current system to be able to start editing video. Yes it will serve as a gaming machine as well (Civilization 5 and some FPS). I usually make MB/CPU upgrades every 4 to 5 years, so it is about time. I would like to assemble the following. Please give me your thoughts and opinions!

Would change the ram to Corsair/Crucial/A-Data. G-skill has had problems.
Would go with WD Black HDs Are the opticals IDE or SATA? If IDE, get a new SATA drive.

Excellent PSU choice. From a gamer's perspective, the sound card is an excellent choice too. From a thrifty person perspective, you can try the onboard sound first and then buy the sound card if you find the onboard lacking.
Me, I'd get the sound card. I don't mind spending a mite more to get the best system I can put together; it's not like I'm building every month; like yourself I upgrade every 4-5 years. Follow flanzig's advice on the drives and memory. What program are you gonna be using for your video editing? If it's Adobe Premiere Pro, then stick with that video card. If not, you might want to look at a 6870 which consumes less power and runs a mite cooler. Then again, with your PSU, I'd just stick with the nVidia.

Why don't you save 50 bucks or so and get a P8P67 Pro?
Ixnay on the Samsungs and G.skill. WD Blacks and Corsair/Crucial/Kingston/A-Data. |

Thanks you all for your input. I have had some success with the G.skill ram so far. Why the ASUS delxue, I liked the board setup alittle better than the PRO in terms of the keyboard/mouse connections. Plus most sites were backordered or sold out. I have used WD Drives in the past with no problems, but the WD black drives were overpriced and reviews had the WD drive failing at a larger rate. But we all know drives fail, so any drive is a crap shoot or knock on wood situation.
Granted if the parts you recommended that I did not purchase begain to fail, it will be an "I told you so" moment. I will be should to give you all the right credit. The plan is to use Adobe CS5 for editing. Additionally I would like to use started using vidblaster. |
