$600 Gaming Build

Hi, i'm also looking for a cheap gaming PC to play mainly Starcraft 2, maybe some WoW (hopefully not lol). Also if it ever comes out i want to play some Diablo 3. Guild Wars 2 might be another possibility but if it takes a better PC i probably won't be playing it. Would this PC be suitable for my demands? or this one i quoted from glc:

or maybe something different, my budget is around 600$ but if the 650$ is so much better i guess i could go with that one.

Also i would like to know are most monitors mouse's and keyboards cheaper on the internet or directly in stores since i will probably be buying those sooner or later because mine are outdated.

You should really have started a new thread but since it's here :

Khalil's posted system uses an AMD quadcore cpu with a generation newer graphics card.
GLC's posted system uses a bit faster dual core cpu using intel's latest design.

it realy depends on what else you plan to do with the system. Khalils would be my choice mostly due to the newer vid card and the quad core cpu, but if the games that you wish to play can't take advantage of it then it comes down to the vid card and how well it plays the games you wish to play.

Oh and yeh.... it is nice to see ya Kahlil. You were missed.

I have moved your post and its reply to its own thread.

In my recommendation, a Radeon 6850 is the equivalent to a GTX460.

Peripherals are generally cheaper online, but you have to be aware of shipping charges, and it also depends on your sales tax rate and whether you have to pay sales tax online. It also depends on if you know exactly what you want or not.

So since im a big newbie and never build a pc in my life i need to know if this will work fine together. If theres a piece that doesn't work can you suggest another for me from the canadian newegg website?

Also if you guys know of an equivalent item thats on special right now or a better on thats at the same price can you guys tell me because i don't know what works with what or if its even good reliable.

I ordered the gtx 460 from NCIX because the one on newegg is more expensive and the 6850 is out of stock, is NCIX a reliable website to order from? or should i wait until newegg restocks? Also did i pick the right gtx 460? Theres so many i don't know which one is right.

I picked out this monitor for gaming but my friend says the contrast ratio is too low and it won't be bright enough, is he right is there a better recomendation for that price and same size?

They keyboard is standart but i was wondering if this was a good mouse to be gaming with for the price.

Why is my shopping cart on newegg divided into 3 parts, monitor is in one, 4 other items on one other part and 3 others in the rest? Will it affect my shipping cost?

For the rebates do i have to write in any codes before i order or its automatic? Same with the mail in ones, do i have to write any codes before i order or only after i get the items?

Since i never built a pc before any tips on what i shouldn't do or do when i do get it, only thing i ever put in a pc before was ram.

Ncix is better than newegg. Ships faster, awesome service, great deals and they do price match. And they're Canadian.

I'd actually buy all of that at Ncix and try price match in case they're more expensive on some of your items.

But theres a couple of items that don't exist on NCIX, so i'd still have to order from newegg, nice to know its reliable though. I actually might just order ASUS EAH6870 DC/2DI2S/1GD5 Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity from neweeg anyways since ordering all from the same place will probably save me shipping costs, would that video card work with the rest? Heres the link http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16814121418
Or can i go with an Evga 460 thats 30 dollars cheaper. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16814130565

Your links go back to Newegg Canada's home page.

That's a great monitor for gaming.

The minimum PSU for the 460 according to Nvidia is 450 watts. Your 520 watt Antec PSU should be fine.

If i would decide to use a 6870 would it be ok?

Also is there an equivalent to this ASUS M4A77TD AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard

The AMD recommended minimum for that card is a 500 watt PSU.

AMD Radeon

A 520 watt Antec PSU will probably work but I would never cut it that close. I would upgrade to a 600-650 watt PSU so you have a little breathing room....but that's just my own philosophy about electronics and not expecting them to last for a long time when they are being pushed to their near maximum output.

Were it me I would get this PSU for the 6870...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...air-_-17139005 But then it's no longer a budget PSU.

I think you are maxed out on a $650 budget build. I would stay with what was recommended unless you don't mind spending more. If so then yes, I would go with the 6870 but with a slightly more powerful PSU.

Ok if i need to change the PSU i'll probably stick with the 460. I know asus is the best brand but i heard u guys say evga is also good, since evga is cheaper right now id go with this one EVGA 01G-P3-1371-TR GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
Newegg.ca - EVGA 01G-P3-1371-TR GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
Is it a good choice? i'm also not sure which 460 is the right one since theres about 15.

I checked the reviews and the Evga 460 i linked was a TR and apparently its not as good as the AR and the AR is more expensive so i've decided to see if this one was as good and could plug in my monitor.

HIS H685F1GD Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity
Newegg.ca - HIS H685F1GD Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

EDIT: Oh yeah power supply won't support this one, This EVGA gtx 460 1gb is superclocked, would i need a better power supply? http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...-568-_-Product

I'm really stuck in what video card to choose that can match with my power supply, i don't want to break the pc i build.

Is there a difference between these 2 cards?

To view the link you have to open in new tab, don't know why the normal way doesn't work.

I'm building a new pc and wondering what video card to get, i'm told asus was the best so i'd like to get that brand. But one of these is out of stock and its on special at the same price as the other one, so i was just wondering if they had a difference in performance. They look the same to me.

Threads merged, please keep all questions about a build in one thread. Thank you.

I don't see where there would be much, if any, difference between them. Not enough to worry about.

So far as Canadian retailers go, I use Memory Express all the time. Their selection certainly isn't what Newegg.ca or NCIX is, but they will price-match any other Canadian retailer, offer free shipping on orders over $99.00 and I have found their after-sales service to be excellent. I am lucky as I have a brick-and-mortar not far from me and don't need the free shipping they offer. I would definitely recommend them.

Sorry i just figured i'd get an answer since more people post there.

I just want to know whats a good video card to use since the one recomended by Khalil doesn't work out with the power supply i'm using, I changed the power supply because the thread where this build was originally posted you guys said that the Corsair 600 wasn't good and recomended the one i took, unless i found the wrong one. Also recomended to change the Cooler Master elite 330 to a 335.

The 460 is not "way better" than the 6850. They are almost identical performing cards. However, the Antec will power any of them fine, and can handle stronger cards.

Not trying to sway you, but I personally would go with this card for its lifetime warranty and EVGA's step up program.
Newegg.ca - EVGA 01G-P3-1373-AR GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Superclocked EE 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

The ASUS 6850 is a very nice card and will serve you very well, I just like having the lifetime warranty that is offered on the EVGA AR cards.

Plus the Catalyst Control Centre is a PITA. Go with nVidia.

Oh ok i'll probably go with this one then, lifetime guarantee is nice, does being superclocked affect the watts needed?

You should be fine, if you decide later on down the road you want something bigger it will support a slightly larger card. If you get this card in and decide you want to play more graphics intensive games and need more card EVGA offers this.
EVGA | Support | Step-Up™ Program

I wish I would have bought my gts 450 from them because once I got it and started gaming more on my computer I started playing more graphics intensive games and am now looking to replace my 2 month old gts 450. It plays starcraft and WOW just fine but it really doesn't like crysis at 1920x1080 when you start cranking stuff up to high.
