SB mobo suggestions
Howdy,
I'm researching a build for one of our customers and I'd like to know which mobos from Asus and Gigabyte I should consider. This computer is going to use an nVidia videocard, probably a 470 or 460, so I don't care for onboard and I need enough slots for future proofing. This is not a gamer, but a design workstation. I'd be looking at an i7 CPU, but would consider i5s too as the customer wants to spend as little as possible without sacrificing quality and performance. Based on the mobos you recommend, I'd check with my supplier to see if they carry them or they can order them. TIA for any helpful input.

the asus p7p55d-e pro should be a good board for your purposes. i dont know how well a 460/470 would perform as a workstation card, given they are designed for gaming. ill let glc chime in on that one.

If cost is a major issue, this is probably the cheapest full ATX Sandy Bridge board I'd get:
NCIX.com - Buy ASUS P8P67 LE ATX LGA1155 P67 2PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 3PCI Sandy Bridge Motherboard - P8P67 LE In Canada. Suitable for only one video card - no SLI or Crossfire. |

My choice for workstations these days are the Asus Sabertooth boards. You can not go wrong with any of the chipsets. I prefer the X58 at this time but the P67 is very impressive as well.

Ya, I held off. And I was gonna use the P67, since the Sabretooth woulda hiked the price up quite a bit. Spoke with the customer to-day and was relieved to find out that she doesn't need the machine right away, she was just kinda looking into it. Suggested she waited till April, hoping that by then this whole SB mess will have been sorted out.
