Heya, welcome to the forums.
![]() For a gaming machine you need go with a WD Black. Also change that POS MSI card to an Asus or Diamond. Where are you buying your parts? ncix.com?

Although not the best brand choice, the MSI card is okay. I do prefer Asus, Diamond, and HIS. I'm more concerned about the Kingwin PSU - those aren't the greatest. I try to stick with Seasonic, Corsair, or Antec. The Blue hard drive is a low end drive - a Black is a better choice and I'd recommend a SATA 6.0 version. It will be faster and have a longer warranty. Unless it's cheap, I'd get something other than a HP DVD burner. It's no better than a Lite-On, LG, Asus, or Sony.

This is great information. I really appreciate your advice.
Based on your recommendations, I've made the following changes: Hard Drive: Western Digital WD1002FAEX Caviar Black Hard Drive - 1TB, 7200RPM, 64MB, SATA 6Gbs Power Supply: Corsair HX750W 750-Watt Modular Power Supply - Single +12V Rail Design Video Card: Asus Radeon HD 6870 Video Card - 1024MB, GDDR5, PCIe, Dual mini-Display Port, HDMI, Dual DVI CD/DVD Drive: Lite-On Internal DVD Writer - DVD+R 24X, DVD-R 24X, DVD+RW 8X, DVD-RW 6X, DVD+R DL 8X, SATA (OEM) Since you're wondering, I'll probably be buying my parts from TigerDirect.ca The community forum is great! Feels like we're building it together. It's going to be a work of art.

Steer clear of TigerDirect. Too many here have been screwed by them in one way or another.
Go with Newegg in Canada. Newegg.ca - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

Actually, NCIX.com - Canada's Premier Computer Store is better than newegg. They ship faster and do price match.

NCIX has been the northern equivalent to Newegg for years. I've heard nothing but good things for a long time. I would second the Tigerdirect warning though. They aren't as sleazy as to not ship you what you ordered, but there are a ton of stories of shipping problems and them not honoring rebates or warranties. Easier to stick to the companies with the good reps, even if it's a couple of dollars more.

Excellent advice! I feel so much more confident about my plans and I will definitely head the warning about TigerDirect.ca
Thanks a million and keep up the great work. Hope that someday I'll be knowledgeable enough to be able to pay it forward. |
