Fail.
Although, I was snooping around other forums and read some things, such as this flaw may only affect SATA II and not SATA III, not affecting Marvell ports (if the motherboard supports them), and doesn't lead to data loss or anything, just degraded performace. Again, just things I've read, may not all be true. Still, not cool for early adopters (myself included ).

Are there any specific models that are affected? It doesn't seem like the whole batch is bad.
Never mind, I looked closely, it's the chipset that's defective and not the CPUs, right? That picture of affected products confused me.

Looks like the LGA 1156 gets a few more days of life.

Khali,glc......."I tested Sandybridge and currently working with it, everything is stable so far but it is too new for me to make a recommend on it." (Should have listened.)
Looks like an RMA may be in order...I deeply bow to your experience. Most likely the P67 chipset is part of it and will have to look at the particulars of the build. Yup.....Listening to the chorus now David! ![]() Gonna start inquiring with Newegg concerning the replacement stream.

Went into Newegg and found the "Sandy Bridge" series deactivated from shipping. A smaller selection of compatible motherboards are available now, and no postings as to the issue?
Deactivation of the CPU is most likely a "bigger picture" move and not reflective on the CPU itself. Just checked tracking and delivery of components seems to be a day away! It's one thing to know that Intel is shipping new chips for the chipsets....and quite another to see what the time frame is w/Gigabyte....quality stuff............but slow to service. Perfect storm. Wow - only 2 Asus boards available, along with a MSI and a few Asrock. NO processors available.

Is it just me or does it seem to be like they are covering up a bigger issue with a smallish one. I mean yeah the one they say is a problem but man they are bringing everything to a skidding HALT. This stuff has definatly spread like wildfire.

There's no coverup. It sure looks to me like they are trying to fix this right.

Yeah. I don't think Intel is being malicious either. This isn't the first time Intel has had a similar problem (Pentium anyone?), nor are they the only chip maker that has had it. Poopee happens.

Looks like those motherboards are still there due to them being on the last servers to have them taken off still. Newegg was totally aware at support and very helpful. No cover-up it seems but...Intel is just giving out the minimum info. (Seems OEM's are learning now too.)
Looks like AMD has a short breather from the onslaught of "Sandy Bridge". Intel seems to be in "full motion" (on reparation) to minimize this! |

There are more problems than the article talks about that's for sure. I am glad I have not recommended them to anyone. I have built three and two are bad, the third I am waiting for a call back. I put three into my father-in-laws business and I forewarned him, so he is cool with it. I simply swapped them out with AMD systems.

Shame on you Intel! Look what you're forcing people to do!
![]() ![]() I was also quoting a system for a customer, but called it off to-day upon reading this thread. We got the first SB machine for our shop last Friday, but it's going back because of a bent case panel; guess now there's one more reason for it to be returned. Heh, talking to G last week, I was almost temped to build one last machine for myself with the Asus Sabretooth, but not anymore, I'll just upgrade the video card in mine and that'll be the end of my Windows experience. |

Exactly why I do not jump into supporting and recommending any new product based on benhcmarks and marketing hype till it is tried and true.
So far out of the 19 systems we have sold with the 1155 platform 9 are back with problems, this is dreadful. I am not knocking intel, I feel the same way about AMD products that come out. I am halting all system builds with the 1155 platform for at least 3 months to see how things go!

I ordered this motherboard, and have it waiting on a build:
ASUS P8P67 EVO LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard I have not put a cpu in it, or done anything else with it... Should I contact newegg about returning it? I'm confused because the article says "This potentially faulty chipset was used in Intel’s latest Core processors, or Sandy Bridge." Isn't this talking about the CPU chips like i7 2600k? There is talk of motherboards causing issues as well. The motherboard I ordered is also no longer available at newegg at the moment. Should I return this motherboard? Is it faulty without the CPU chip? I have not added ther CPU chip yet.. |

Better than to live with a faulty one. From what Casey posted this bug seems a very nasty one.

I thought the whole case was that they were pulling in all their Couger points that came out at the same time as the sandy bridge because the chipset didn't work, but the SB cpu worked fine :O
As they say in their press conference found here, the micro cpu is unaffected. Or is the micro cpu the portable (laptop) cpu's? But anyways, I'm glad I went for a standalone GPU and not the SB :P Ordered the parts on Saturday xD

It's not the CPU that's defective, it's the motherboards. There is a problem with the standard SATA 3.0 ports. The SATA 6.0 works fine.
