Budget AMD - first build

Hey all!

Found this site via google, love the articles and info in forums. I'm looking to piece together a budget build, curious to know what you think of components selected.

I play some older games (obviously, HD4350...), music/movies, stream legally ripped blu-rays stored on ext. HD, nothing too CPU intensive.

Have been using a budget Acer from BB w/AMD Athlon X2 4450E cpu.

I don't really care about AMD vs. Intel, except that I'm on a budget so AMD seems to fit better.

I already have Win 7 Pro 64 bit license, 1TB Samsung F2 HD, HD4350 video card, cd/dvd, keyboard, mouse, monitor.

Parts list:

Thermaltake VL84301W2Z V3 Black Edition with 430W Power Supply ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Newegg.com - Thermaltake VL84301W2Z V3 Black Edition with 430W Power Supply ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
$45 for the next 2 hours, shellshocker deal.

AMD Athlon II X2 245 Regor 2.9GHz Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor ADX245OCGQBOX
Newegg.com - AMD Athlon II X2 245 Regor 2.9GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor ADX245OCGQBOX

BIOSTAR A770E3 AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
Newegg.com - BIOSTAR A770E3 AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
$105 for MB and CPU, combo deal

Kingston ValueRAM 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KVR1333D3N9K2/4G
Newegg.com - Kingston ValueRAM 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KVR1333D3N9K2/4G
$44

Your comments/criticism?

Thank you!

I'd advise you to buy a case without a power supply and get a decent power supply. Thermaltake PSU's aren't that great.

I had planned on buying:

Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Newegg.com - Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
$45 after MIR

or

Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Newegg.com - Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case, comes with Three Fans-1x Front Blue LED 120mm Fan, 1x Top 140mm Fan, 1x Rear 120mm Fan, option Fans-2x Side 120mm Fan
$55

and for PS:

Antec EarthWatts Green EA-380D Green 380W Continuous power ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply
Newegg.com - Antec EarthWatts Green EA-380D Green 380W Continuous power ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply
$45

or

COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS-500-PCAR-A3-US 500W ATX12V v2.3 Power Supply
Newegg.com - Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC 430W ATX12V V2.2 Intel Core i7 Compliant Dual 80mm Fans Full Cable Sleevings Power Supply
$35 after MIR

That being said, the PS in the linked case is this:

Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC 430W ATX12V V2.2 Intel Core i7 Compliant Dual 80mm Fans Full Cable Sleevings Power Supply
Newegg.com - Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC 430W ATX12V V2.2 Intel Core i7 Compliant Dual 80mm Fans Full Cable Sleevings Power Supply

and seems to well like overall...I'm coming from a SFF budget pc with a 220 watt (not a type!) lite-on PS.

Graphics card manufacturers provide listings on bare minimum power PSU necessary for their cards and listings for PSU's that they certify will work. Be certain to check that. Personally, I like being slightly above bare minimum power but not overkill.

Corsair, Antec and Seasonic are considered the best brand of PSU's. As glc said, and you still have listed, Thermaltake is not so good.

Right, how about this Antec:

Antec NEO ECO 620C 620W Continuous Power ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply
Newegg.com - Antec NEO ECO 620C 620W Continuous Power ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply
$45 after MIR

Thanks to you both for your comments!

What video card are you going to use? the 620W you listed is capable of handling most video cards on the market. I am using one with Dual GTS250s SLI so it is more than capable!

Tragically I'm using this:

GIGABYTE GV-R435OC-512I Radeon HD 4350 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Low Profile Ready Video Card
Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GV-R435OC-512I Radeon HD 4350 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Low Profile Ready Video Card

Like I said, older games are what I run purely due to budgetary reasons...wife+two small kids = little room for video card upgrades.

Some guy locally is selling the following for $350...seems pretty solid:

SILVERSTONE Black 8.0mm aluminum front panel, 0.8mm SECC body GRANDIA GD04B Micro ATX Media Center / HTPC Case
Newegg.com - SILVERSTONE Black 8.0mm aluminum front panel, 0.8mm SECC body GRANDIA GD04B Micro ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

SeaSonic SS-500ET 500W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - OEM
Newegg.com - SeaSonic SS-500ET 500W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies

ASUS EAH5750 FORMULA/2DI/1GD5/A Radeon HD 5750 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
Newegg.com - ASUS EAH5750 FORMULA/2DI/1GD5/A Radeon HD 5750 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Seems like a great deal to me...

I'd buy it. There are no parts I have issues with except possibly the G.skill memory, but if it's currently running stable, it's fine.
