I would like to install a 3.5" floppy drive into my computer tower and there is only 1 - 5.25" drive bay free. My hard drive occupies the 1 - 3.5" drive bay in the case. Does anyone know if an adaptor exists to allow a 3.5" drive to be installed in a 5.25" drive bay? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Why not just get an external and plug it into a USB port? They are cheap.

That exists. http://www.cablesunlimited.com/produ...roupcode=I0639
I did not find one in stock at Newegg. When I used to use floppy's, which was not very often towards the end, I had it mounted in a spare drive bay inside the case. That's another option. USB flash drives to a large degree have replaced floppy's.

The reason for putting a floppy drive back into my computer is so that I can access files from old floppy disks that I have from the past. I would like to transfer the files on all the floppy disks over to the computer, organize them into folders and then archive them all onto a CD or DVD.
@ Trulad, I did not know that there are external floppy drives that plug into a USB. That's cool! I just had an old internal drive kicking around and figured that I could just use that. @ David M., thanks for the link, I will check it out. I am going to call a couple of computer shops in my town and see what they have. I can also go to the online classifieds and post for there. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. |

Newegg.com - BYTECC Black 1.44/0.72/1.25 MB 3.5" External USB Floppy Drive Model BT-144
Here's one from NewEgg. I have one but havn't used it in years. Thumb drives phased it out but if you have floppies to copy, this will do it and you aren't tied to one computer. |

Check your local stores. Just recently, I got an adapter from Microcenter for $7.99. It was collecting dust in thier backroom.
The Computer warehouse was gonna be my next stop.

I think you are looking for this if I understand the post correctly
Newegg.com - StarTech BRACKETFDBK 3.5in Hard Drive to 5.25in Front Bay Bracket Adapter This is not metal but it works great and the color is correct in regards to matching most black cases. |
