Suggestions on a new build list
Hey, I'm new to building pc's, but I've gathered a list of the parts I'm looking to get. I want a pc that will play most new games on medium to high at 20+ fps and I also need it to run programs for video game design. It doesn't need to be an absolute beast by any means. It just needs to be 3.0+ ghz, with gpu that's not half bad. I just want to make sure there won't be any compatibility issues with the list I've gathered, and if you have any advice or suggestions, I'm open to them.
Case - Antec Three Hundred Illusion Case $55 Motherboard - ASUS M4N98TD EVO AM3 Motherboard $140 Video Card - ASUS ENGTS450 DC OC/DI/1GD5 GeForce GTS 450 (Fermi) 1GB $130 PSU - XCLIO GOODPOWER 500W $50 CPU - AMD Phenom II X2 560 Black Edition 3.3GHz $106 Memory - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) $80 HDD - Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM $72 Disc Drive - ASUS Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL $18 Thanks in advance, I appreciate any and all help! |

Case: Good.
Motherboard: No no no - get one with an AMD chipset. Video card: You need more, at least a 1gb GTX460. PSU: Xclio has fallen out of favor here. Look at a Corsair TX, Seasonic, or Antec Earthwatts. Memory: Not a very good choice - get Corsair, Crucial, Kingston, or A-Data DDR3-1333. |

Having that exact graphics card in my rig right now I can tell you that it will play most games up to 1080 at 20+ fps, Fallout New Vegas played on max runs at 59fps according to Fraps. Dead Space on high gets me around 40 FPS and Bioshock 2 maxed runs around 45 FPS. Crysis warhead on gamer setting's runs at about 25 FPS and jumps to 38 FPS if I drop the resolution a notch or two, if I try it on enthusiast settings it drops to about 15-20 FPS at 1080. However most people agree that anything under 30 FPS is unplayable and I personally like 50 plus. I am in the process of selling this card after having it for just over a month because it is not enough card for me, I will be upgrading to a GTX 560 TI SOC. I would take the advice above me, however if you are on a tight budget the GTS will play a lot of games fine up to 1080p, even at medium and high settings. The extreme games like Crysis and Metro 2033 you will have to lower the resolutions and keep the eye candy in the medium or lower settings in order to keep playable FPS.

The newer cards also have some nice eye candy that you will like, especially with shading and how the light works off of objects. The greater realness is pretty nice. It's more than frame rates that is better now.

If you want SLI, build with Intel. The P7P55D-E Pro socket 1156 board is the best choice, but pricey. If you want AMD, use an AMD/ATI video card, and you can Crossfire them if you want.
Apex PSU's are junk. Stick with the Earthwatts - and if you want SLI or Crossfire, you need a lot more power than that. No AMD boards support triple channel ram, just dual channel, and Mushkin does have some issues. Please refer to my previous post. You went backwards with the hard drive - stick with the Black. If you are going to get a GTX460, get a 1gb, NOT a "SE", and from Asus or EVGA. |

lol I can't be mad at that and ur right. Here's what I've got. I know you said that if i want to use amd, I should use it with amd/ati video cards or nvidia with intel, but intel is way too expesnive for me, and no ati's can compete with the GTX 460 at this price. I did some research, and the anthlon II X3 450 will work just fine with the GTX 460 and the mobo i picked. I know its not an amazing setup, but with ur advice and some tweaking do to budget, I think I'm solid now with this list:
case - Antec Three Hundred Illusion Case $55 Motherboard - MSI 870-G45 AM3 AMD 770 ATX $70 Video Card - Galaxy 60XGH6HS3GMW GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Super OC 1GB $165 PSU - Antec EarthWatts EA-500D Green 500W ATX12V $70 CPU - AMD Athlon II X3 450 Rana 3.2GHz $80 Memory - A-DATA XPG Gaming Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600 $100 HDD - Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache $72 Disc Drive - ASUS Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL $18 Thx again! |

The only issues I have now are your brand choices for the motherboard and video card.
I'm just saying if you want to SLI, you shouldn't do it with AMD. For a single Nvidia card, either Intel or AMD is fine. I just do not like the required NForce chipsets required to SLI with AMD processors. |
