$1000 - $1500 Build New Suggestions

Hi,

I'm currently using AMD Athlon X2 4000 and 2Gb RAM. I would like to build a new PC as this PC is running slow for me.

My main purpose of PC is doing multimedia, software, and online work involving site building.

I'm quite thinking if I should wait for the Bulldozer or should I turn to Intel iCore? The new iCore is having problem now.

As for Memory, I would like to have 8GB. 1Tb Harddisk and 1Tb backup drive. I would need separate graphic and sound card. A good casing and power supply

As for motherboard, I would go for Asus as I heard many good reviews on Asus motherboard. Or do you have any good suggestions?

Hope that someone experienced can help me.

Thanks!
Eric.

How much do you want to spend? Are you in the USA?

Asus boards are the first choice around here.

If you want the Intel 1155 Sandy Bridge, you will need to wait for April at the earliest. Otherwise the Intel 1156 and the AMD CPU's are all good.

Hi David,

Budget around $1000 to $1500. Not in the USA. In Malaysia.

Are there any differences between the 1155 and 1156? Any comment on AMD Bulldozer which will be coming out in April?

Thanks!
Eric.

Can someone please give some feedbacks?

I heard that AMD is fast but not so stable as intel. Is that true?

How can I be sure I pick the right computer parts to give the best performance? What to look for?

Thanks!
Eric.

Which specific software are you running?

8 GB is the sweet spot right now. Crucial, Kingston and A-Data are the brands you need to look at.

For HDDs, you want WD's Blacks.

I won't recommend and AMD system. Let's leave it at that. If you need to build right now, you'd have to go with Intel's 1156 socket. If you can wait for the SB revised mobos, then all the better.

Video card recommendations will have to wait till you tell us which software you're gonna be running.

Intel and AMD are both good brands for CPU's. There are no differences in instability between the brands. Instability in a computer comes from a number of other factors.

Go ahead and put together a parts list of what you think you may want and the people here will help you with your list. If you have no idea on what parts you want then look through a dozen or so of the most recent builds and you will begin to get a sense of which parts and brands are quality and work with each other.

It's not really the AMD's cpus that are the problem, it's the chipsets. I'll build another AMD when Intel makes the chipset for it!

If you have to go AMD, choose a mobo with an AMD chipset. Avoid nForces.

So I take it you don't like the AMD 890/850 chipset?

That's personal preference - and I share that opinion. However, there are a lot of people out there who prefer AMD and build with them successfully.

Now, in some instances, benchmarks do shew that Intel is faster than AMD, but the performance gap is not that great, and of course reporting these facts is most times moot because the fanboys jump in and turn the discussion into a flame war.

Yet, when Intel WAS the underdog, we Intel users admitted it. Ah well.
