major problems in AMD/ Gigabyte system
OS: Windows XP SP3 32 bit
First I built a system from GA-890FXA-UD5(rev 2.1), Athlon II x4 645, Patriot PC3-10600 1333MHz 2x4GB, GeForce 8600GT. It worked okay except that when I put it in standby and then resumed, the video took a long time to return (about a minute). After about 2 weeks, one day the video did not return at all after resume from standby. After several power-down/power up cycles, it worked fine again. A couple days later, video disappeared again, this time for good. No video on boot. I did the "beep check"---unplugged everything from board. No beeps. I got a second 890FXA-UD5, second Athlon CPU, different memory (Patriot Sector 5), and different video card (Radeon HD 5550). I tried various combinations of components and it seemed like the original CPU was dead. With the second CPU and all the new hardware I got the system going again. I reinstalled windows. There was no hardware in common now with the first system. The mb was new (but the same model), CPU was new (same model), memory was new (different model), video card was new (HD5550 instead of 8600GT). Even the power supply was new. So it worked fine for one day, but had the issue of long delay in video returning from standby. On the second day, suddenly exact same problem----video never came back after standby. Power off and power on did not fix the problem! No video on boot. I removed all components and did the "beep check." It did have beeps. After reinstalling components, it did boot with video. The only component models in common between these two hardware configurations are the mb and cpu. Both were the same model but new physical components in the second system. My experiments clearly point to a dead CPU, but also the new system is exhibiting the same symptoms (dead after standby) and I wonder if it will completely fail soon. |

Based on the information you supplied, it sounds like a CPU compatible problem with the BIOS. I would check your boards BIOS updates. You may want to read through them to see if there are any power saver issues or CPU updates going on or drop support an email. I assume you are forcing a standby during a video cycle, not good. You also did not list the brand(s) and models of the power supplies.
