p67 sabertooth only wrks on marvel
Just got my new p67 sabertooth together & it all looks good. However it only recognizes the hard drive when plugged in to the marvel 6.0 sata con. (the hard drive is a wd caviar black). How can I change it to see it in the intel 6.0 sata con. Do I need to install windows first then use the MOBO disc to change it?
Thanks, Dale

Is the board the new 3.0 version? Are the Intel 6.0 ports turned on in the bios?

Sheesh, mine still in wrapper and I got to see this? Why would they have a Marvel vs Intel 6.0 option? I know Intel is a better driver though for 6gbs so if there's a way to change it, great!!
A quote from a slightly old review but maybe still appluicable: "The X58 and P55 platforms produced roughly 222 MBps reads and 165 MBps writes, all while connected to the Intel ICH10 Southbridge. In comparison, the Marvell SATA 6G controllers produced approximately 154 MBps read speed, and 106 MBps write. This results in a 42% advantage for the ICH10 SATA 3G controller over Marvell's 9123/9128 SATA 6G controller in read speed, and a 55% advantage in write-to performance. Why, you might ask? It's all in the driver."

If you have a SATA 6.0 hard drive, put it on the Intel port, and put the optical on a regular SATA 3.0 port. Turn the Marvell off.

OK, I got the HDD on the intel 6.0 & the dvd on a 3.0. They both show up on the appropriate port in the bios but it's still not recognized on bootup. If I boot off of the dvd with a windows xp disc I get an error. 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

If you are going to use XP you are going to have to use the Marvell and load the driver with a FLOPPY DISK to get the drives seen and installed - press F6 at the beginning of setup when the prompt appears at the bottom of the screen to install a 3rd party storage driver. Without an onboard floppy controller, you are going to have to buy a USB floppy drive. The driver CANNOT be installed using a USB flash drive, a floppy is REQUIRED.
With Windows 7, you can use whatever you want. |

Best buy wants too much for win7 still trying to work on XP. The MOBO disc won't install anything, it just gives me choices then says plug floppy in drive A: I keep trying different usb but no A: recognized yet & this mobo has 10 usb's counting the 3.0 ones.

You can get an OEM Win7 Home for $100 - gotta ask for it. If you do get that and still have same problems, I'm waiting on sidelines b4 doing mine.

Here's the driver you need for your floppy disk:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...=2101&lang=eng It's a zip file - extract all the files in it to a blank formatted floppy. When XP tells you to press F6 to install a 3rd party storage driver, press it. |

Thanks again, I got it downloaded on my floppy. When I boot win xp it does say press F6 but nothing happens. I made several attempts, nothing so I guess I'm going to order win 7 from newegg. I have win 7 on the rig in my sig & I like it. The only negative is that Company of Heros won't work with it. Maybe there is a patch for that by now (havn't checked for several months).

update
Tried 1 more time, hit F6 all the way through to the install screen no luck. I went ahead & ordered Win 7, got it yesterday & everything works fine using the intel 6.0 port.

Stay in touch please. Mine been in the wrapper for a week. Seems there is an Intel and Marvel port from what you write. Weird - why would anyone want the Marvel?

Thank you for your concern. I'm doing fine, but life in this city will never be the same again. I'm about 3 miles from "ground zero" and suffered no damage except for some tree limbs down and no power for 24 hours. We are under a boil order and they have no idea when we will have our cable TV back. There's a couple threads in General Discussion on the situation here.
The charitable response has been overwhelming. I opened my front door tonight and found a case of bottled water on it. I stopped by the VFW this afternoon, and the whole hall was packed with donated clothes and goods. |
