Gaming rig having troubles

Firstly I'd like to introduce myself, as this is my first post. Aaron, from Jacksonville, FL. k. Now to the topic at hand.

I built a rig back in 08 that was a great comp, and I'd like to save it so I don't have to build a new one. Problem is, when I go to start the computer, the fans turn on, the lights come on, everything spins up, but nothing comes up on the monitor. I've tried 3 different video cards and nothing. I've also tried the method HAL9000 posted about building the comp outside the case, no joy. Which brings me to all of you. What should be my next step? I'm going to list my parts below for you, so you know what I'm working with. Hopefully I haven't missed any helpful information here. Also, I've read some posts on here and noticed the majority are very against Tigerdirect.com. I bought the parts for this computer from them, and the computer I built before that from them, and have never had any problems. That being said, I do use Newegg now for all my needs. Please dont flame me for the TD usage. And as for the parts being bad because they are from TD: I used this computer for over a year before I started having trouble, and it ran like a champ. It only stopped working after I moved furniture a bit in my apartment. No, I didn't drop it or kick it or anything, just gently moved the comp.

We don't flame people here. About TigerDirect, it's the quantity of low end parts they sell and how they sometimes treat their customers that is the problem.

If you have done HAL's outside the case recommendations to the letter and you know your PSU is fine and it is not your graphics card or monitor then the only thing that is left is a bad motherboard.

XFX has never been known for its quality, so yes, a bad mobo is high on the list of problems. Another possible cause is the PSU, and this is why we don't like TigerDirect very much: they push their Ultras which are essentially POSes.

Seagate drives have been dropping like flies lately, but I don't suspect the HDD as much as I do the mobo and the PSU. Try a different PSU, before you declare the mobo officially defunct.

Hmm...Never thought about the PSU. I'll try that when I get off work. Thanks!

Just thought I would update those who helped me.

After being tipped off about the PSU I took the tower to my friends house (who is a computer phenom, that's from me, not him) and asked if he'd allow me to borrow some of his computers to troubleshoot. We put his video card and power supply on my motherboard with my ram and processor. That was all that was hooked up, in case and all. No luck. He had a weird look on his face afterwords and when I asked what was wrong, he said "where was the (forgot what he called it) beep?" When he thought about it for 2 seconds, he threw in a stick of his ram instead of mine, and the computer booted right up!

Just to make sure that was the ONLY problem, I left his PSU and ram in the comp, and put my video card back in. Computer didn't start. According to his best reasoning...

My PSU was talking out bits and pieces of my computer slowly.

So, the computer is now either A) getting sold for scrap or B) given to my brother and father so they can fix it and use it.

Thank you all for your inputs to help me fix this!

Also, gonna be starting a new thread with the parts for the computer I'm gonna build to replace it. Any comments on that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again!
