New Build

OK! I've gotten all the parts in. Here is what I have:

AMD Phenom ll x4 Black Edition; Asus M4A89GTD Pro/USB 3; Antec 900 case;
Corsair CMPSU 650TX; Kingston 4GBx2 1333 Ram; Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2
HSF; 2 x WD Black 500 GB SATA 6 drives; 2 x Liteon Op. Drives.

Before installing in case I used the procedure stickied and mounted the processor, ram, and HSF. Connected as instructed, powered up and had images on monitor. Shut down and placed everything into case. Hooked it up the same way as it was out of the case (nothing is hooked up as far as case connections are concerned). Powered up and it went through the Asus boot sequence. Again, everything is working (HSF spins, LEDs on, monitor has images.) The only problem is that the screen mentions that there is a CPU fan error.

Could this be because I do not have ANY thing connected to the case yet?
I'm taking my time, do not want to rush things. Been a millwright for years
and am familiar with what rushing can cause. If this is a problem, how to fix? If not, should I just continue with all the case connections?

Thanks ,

Do you have the CPU fan connected to the correct header on the motherboard?

The fan is connected to the CPU Fan connection on the mobo. It is a four pin connector. There are also 3 other fan connections; 1 x pwr fan, 1 x cha fan 2, these are both 3 pin connectors, and, 1 x cha fan1 is a 4 pin connector.

thanks glc.

Hook up a keyboard and go into the bios - see what it says for fan RPM.

OK. It will probably be awhile before I can do that. Have to take my favorite girl (30 years better be fav.) shopping. Will try the keyboard when I get back.

Like I said in my first post, no hurry. I like doing things right the first time, even if it takes a lot of back and forth between doing and reading. Will post here as soon as I can with results of keyboard try.

thanks again glc. Now I have a starting point.

OK glc. I went ahead and connected all the case connectors, hooked up a keyboard, usb mouse, optical drive, 1 used 250 Gb HD WD w/ Vista 32 bit OS.

Wanted to see if that made a difference, well, it did!. No longer getting CPU fan error, Vista loaded up and everything looks cool. Now I have to go into the BIOS to set everything there. Then I will put in my new 6 Gbs drives and install Win. 7 64 bit.

thanks again glc. I'll probably have a ton of questions when I delve into the BIOS, but, that won't be until I get back from the shopping trip.
