A Fun Build
Been working a few minutes a day on this for past month and a joy. Had a dickens of a time deciding on the cpu cooler and paste, 2 things have never done and perhaps made a big deal out of the choices. I'm satisfied I have the best in cooling - the Noctua D14. Thing takes up half of my mobo and a snap to install.
Newegg.com - Noctua NH-D14 120mm & 140mm SSO CPU Cooler - the reviews read well. Have the case stripped down to clean and configuring either 6 or 7 fans, 140mm. 2 on top and 1 on rear to exhaust. 1 in front, side and bottom to intake. The cooler is so massive, I'm gonna give it some air to move. Besides, this Asus Sabertooth P67 with its Tuf Armor seems like it's gonna want some air moving under and over it. Luckily my case has all the options. Have the Gskills Ripjaws 1600 installed and will give the brand one more chance; every company makes mistakes. I already have the Kingston 1600 from other PC on standby. I can't wait to put it all together and see what she'll do. I read where some get 5ghz.

That board will keep thing cool even without all those fans. Hope she's not to loud for you. Let us know on the RipJaws, I have heard their problems are behind them now. I noticed the good deals on the RipJaws as of late so it will be interesting. Are you going to run memtest 86+ on them? If so, let us know, curious is all.
I am dinking around with a few old PC's as of late to get my fix. I have been donated with 3 older systems from a guy who only buys nothing but the best (like yourself). I am training his parents (70's) how to use the PC after I built them a box. He gave me a fully working Sun Ultra45 Workstation, SGI O2, and an ancient Amiga 4000T workbench. All systems are fully functional and working. My wife threatened to leave me for adopting more boxes. But she can buy all the purses and shoes she wants, which by the way takes up more room.

Have fun with it Sarge. Computers are a good hobby to have. Which graphics card(s) are you looking at? Any water cooling in the future?

![]() Sarge, I'm using a Corsair H70 cooler right now with good results. I'm keeping around 32C while folding, up to 40C with Prime95. It's very quiet and performs well. I have my AMD 1090T @ 3.6 GHz right now, but this cooler seems to take anything you throw at it. I'll be going to 3.9 or 4.0 soon, I just don't have the time to test it or tweak it, so I'm leaving it stable for the time being. Let us know how the Noctura works, noise-wise and for heat rejection. It looks like a beast! |

It's all good. I wish I had the money to do the same. I'm pretty anal also.

Will use the graphics card (that's singular) using in other - GeForce gts 250. I have a Corsair H50 water cooler still in the box but going to try the beast first, see how far can o/c, take temp readings, listen to the noise - I can't hear anyway. Then at some point switch to the H50/70 just for kicks and do the same.

That really sounds like a lot of fun! You're gonna have to post your findings.
