Sub-$500 PC build

I would like to build a computer that I can do regular things like school work, view and edit videos, play games (moderate), web surf, and watch dvd's. My budget is $500. Just looking for suggestions. As far as gaming nothing extreme. Thanks. Don't worry about the OS.

Heres an Amd build that should work for $580
CPU:
Newegg.com - AMD Athlon II X3 455 Rana 3.3GHz 3 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core Desktop Processor ADX455WFGMBOX
Motherboard:
Newegg.com - ASUS M4A88TD-M/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Graphics card:
Newegg.com - ASUS ENGTX550 TI DC/DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

for the rest just use what glc recommended.

What kind of gaming? Like COD, crysis, ?

As far as gaming nothing extreme, probably just older games. Watching videos and dvd's.

Does this work?
AMD Athlon II x 250 regor 3.0GHz
Biostar A880G + AM3 AMD880G
Antec 300 Illusion
TP Link TL-WN78ND
Samsung 500gb SATA II

I'm not sure about RAM, PSU, and GPU. I'm looking for something inexpensive. Perhaps a GPU for $60 more or less.

If you are going to use an AMD processor, use an Asus motherboard and the rest of the components I suggested. I researched them VERY carefully for price AND quality. However, get whatever case you want, those are personal choices. I only picked the Coolermaster because it was on rebate AND had free shipping.

This is the best cheap wireless adapter:

Newegg.com - Rosewill RNX-G300EX IEEE 802.11b/g PCI Wireless Card Up to 54Mbps Data Rates 64/128-Bit WEP, 802.1x, WPA, WPA2, AES, TKIP with 100cm cable external 2 dBi Antenna
