You ever get that moment?

You know, you built the entire thing ground floor up. You checked and re-checked all the connections, made certain screws tightened but not too much. Everything is clean because you cleaned it yourself. All the wires are secured out of the way, both for neatness and better airflow. And then you know you gotta push that button and hope you don't see a blue flash bang or rather nothing at all, or it actually boots into BIOS so you can load the OS. I've had a few builds and that feeling always there for a moment.

That's why I do a quick POST on the table before I put stuff in the case.

I know that. I feel same way when overhauling the 1970 Bug. Turn the key and see what happens.

The local PC shop does that. B4 used Newegg I'd get my mobo, cpu and ram from her. She'd put it all together so fast then connect it to her PS. She always laughed and said she did that so she knew it worked when I left so I couldn't holler later. She always gives me stuff like longer cables and case standoff posts for mobos. You talking about a store full of parts. You need it, she's got it.

Sarge I get that feeling everytime I crack my case open or mess with settings. But yet I still fool around with stuff I should probably be leaving alone.

Just last weekend I opened my case and moved two of my thermal leads for temp readngs. I think my heart stopped briefly when I pressed the power button and got nothing! Jeez, cut it out - all I did was move two leads.

Ended up, I didn't plug in the ac power plug fully. Sheesh. Although; I'm glad it was just me being stupid.

Exhale a quick post is just the initial beep you get when powering on. It means your hardware is working right.
POST= power, on, self, test
Connecting the componenets together first before mounting together in a case is a quick way to ensure the parts are good. And then if you don't 'POST' after you build it, then it's something you did wrong.

I had the same anxiety-excitement-thrill with my first build when I pushed the power button for the first time. I still get it to some degree with a new build or after major surgery on a computer.
