finally ready to build

OK I'm back and with the cash to go forward. I admit I got the parts from "Build the perfect PC" in Maximum PC. How do you all like them. They are within my budget by the way.
CASE, cooler master 690 II advanced
PSU antec 750w true power
MOBO asus p8p67 pro
GPU asus radeon hd 6850
CPU intel core i3 2120
RAM corsair 2 X 2gb kit ddr3/1333
Optical lite-on dvd burner
Drive WD caviar Black 1TB
OS windows home premium oem
It comes to $909 with $40 worth of mail-in rebates which brings it to about $869 and change.
I know the processor isn't the fastest but isn't it ok?
Would there be any advantage to change the HD to
Western Digital VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
@ $109. It's only $20 more and it's 150G and I've never come close to using my 80G drive.

750 watts seems a bit much, and you can save a little cash going with this one:

Newegg.com - CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply

With the extra cash from that you may bump up your CPU to one of the i5's. Just a thought.

=)

The Black is just as fast as the Raptor. Get the SATA 6.0 model.

You can save a few bucks with the CM690 Basic. I also recommend upgrading to an i5. If you are never going to run Crossfire, you can get the base P8P67.

here's the thing, with the rebate, the 750 really only costs $5 more. Of course I have to deal with sending in the rebate card which I'm sure companies count on us not doing.

The perfect computer for you computer depends on which applications you plan on running and how fast you want to run them. Which ones and how fast?

I guess it took too long for me to put in the info. I'm looking at two Asus boards and they look identicle to me.
Item #: N82E16813131705 $154
Item #: N82E16813131706 $144

I'm going with the i5 2500K processor.
I'm at $930 after mail in rebates. Does this all look good?

I just do basic stuff but like to game also. I want to be able to run the latest games.
Will my printer, Logitech sound, scanner work with the new windows? Can I transfer files like pics and such to the new system?

Is that a Black series drive?

If you could provide the Newegg links, it would be a lot easier for us to review them. Right click on each link in the cart, copy, then paste.

Do you plan on overclocking and by how much? You got the p67 board with a k series processor which leads me to thinking that you're set for overclocking. However, you didn't really link a aftermarket heatsink so...

COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus nice and cheap cooler that should be able to get to 4.5ghz without much problem.

or

Noctua NH-D14 120mm & 140mm SSO CPU Cooler biggest, badest, "I'm shooting for 5.0ghz" heatsink.

Well as I understand it's very easy to OC that board, however I'm not sure I'll need to do it, and as of now don't plan to.

You are missing a power supply and video card, and I'd recommend 4gb ram. 2gb doesn't go far at all with Windows 7. If you don't plan on overclocking, you don't need a "K" series processor.

Sorry about that, here they are.
Newegg.com - ASUS EAH6850 DC/2DIS/1GD5/V2 Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V v2.2 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply

Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Desktop Memory Model CMZ4GX3M2A1600C8

Now I upgraded the RAM to the Vengeance with a cass of 8 compared to the regular cass 9. But.... I read somewhere that high speed ram doesn't make a signifcant difference in playability. This was the original ram I had selected.

Newegg.com - CORSAIR XMS3 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model TW3X2G1333C9A G.

I am using 4GB BTW. Is there any reason to pick the faster ram? And to address your recommedation of the 650w PSU to save money, It only costs $5 more for the one I've chosen so I went ahead and went with it.
Now last question and I actually revisit it. How much of what I have now will not run on the new system. If I had chosen to upgrade my XP system to W7 would things have started shutting down? Seems to me MS should have made some way to use my stuff I have now. By stuff I mean scanner, printer, and files like my documents and photos, and utilities.

You are going to have to research compatibility of all your peripherals. Files are files.

OK so you didn't address the ram question so I'm taking that to mean that it doesn't matter that much so I'll go with the cheaper ram.

If you are NOT planning on overclocking, get 1333. If you ARE planning on overclocking, get 1600. Don't worry about CAS.
