need help with building a gaming pc
Hi everybody
I've. Been on the forum for about a week now, and I see a lot of people are building their gaming pc for the first time, well I am one of them, so I will need some help as well, first of all, my budget will be around 1500 USD, I'm planning to order the parts sometime this week or next week, so kinda in a rush, few question here 1)I'm going with the intel cpu(i7 2600k) I no the k means is OC friendly, how do I OC with that? 2)I heard that intalling my OS in a SSD will be better, is it worth the money? 3)what's the difference between SLI and crossfire? I do have a few parts I have in mind, but since I'm on my phone, its hard to post the link.. so I will be updating this thread when I get home, any help is appreciated. Thx Tim |

1. The "K" series processors have unlocked multipliers, which allows you to increase the processor speed without increasing the bus speed. However, why do you want to overclock?
2. I wouldn't necessarily say "better", but the system will boot faster, and any applications installed on the SSD will open faster. In my opinion, I'd rather spend the money on other components. 3. SLI and Crossfire are both methods of operating 2 or more video cards as one for improved gaming performance. SLI is Nvidia, Crossfire is ATI/AMD. In my opinion, I'd rather spend the money on a single stronger card. |

If you want to SLI or Crossfire, the P8P67 Pro is the least expensive board I'd go with. If absolute video performance with 2 cards is your goal, the WS Revolution is the only one that will run both cards at x16. The others all run 2 cards at x8 each. Not a significant difference, but if you are one of those who is looking for every little bit you can get with no significant budget issues, get the WS.
Have you read the linked article yet? If you want to hold off a bit, the April article should be published pretty soon. |

Will there be any new products coming out soon? if not, i might order this sometime this week, if i go with the WS motherboard, is the nvidia graphic card better? and about the heatsink, if im going to OC, will that heatsink be cool enought for my set up? anyway, i just want to build a pc that last me for atleast few years with room to upgrade. thx

Nvidia or AMD video card is personal preference.
You still need to tell us what card or cards you will be using before we can recommend a power supply. |

I would not even consider running two low end cards in SLI. Get one higher end card. You can always add another one later if you really do find the need for it.
Newegg.com - EVGA 01G-P3-1561-AR GeForce GTX 560 Ti FPB (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card If you can afford it: Newegg.com - EVGA 012-P3-1570-AR GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card This PSU can power anything suggested, up to and including a pair of 570's: Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V v2.2 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply |

How much would the card cost? Cuz when I click on the link, it won't show the price, and 1 more thing I'm confuse about, is there 2 types of OS? If there is, what's the difference about them?

To see the price you need to add it to your card and then view your cart.
I'm not certain why they pull this sort of gimmick. When I did it, the 570 was listed as $349.99 |

As I mention before, I wanna put my OS in a different drive, and people mention that putting OS in a ssd is not worth it, so should I get a second WD hard drive for the OS? Is that a good idea?

Start with one drive, then when it becomes 75% full, buy an additional drive and move some stuff over to it. Actually, by that time, SSD's may be priced much better and will be more reliable.

Case length and video card length would indicate that the video card will fit without issue. You can look at the dimensions of both the case and the card and assume you have 5-6" of bay depth in the front of the case.

A Nvidia card can drive 2 monitors. If you want to drive 3, you need an ATI/AMD with Eyefinity.

The 5870 is an older card. Your best bet would be a GTX570 or a 6970.

EVGA does not make ATI cards, they are a Nvidia partner. If you go with the 6870 go with Asus, or HIS.
