New Build
Got a build needing doing for a friend and have pieced together a list of what seems like a good set up to me, but thought I'd let you guys check over it as I've been off the scene a while.
I'm aware there is probably a kuffufle over ATI vs. nVidia but the 450 is fixed in the list unless there is some huge reason why it should be switched (I pretty much refuse to buy ATI after past issues). Intel i3 2100 (3.1GHz, Sckt. 1155) http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...623I32100.html Corsair PC3-10666 (1333Mhz) 4GB http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...M1A1333C9.html ASUS P8H61-M Pro (Includes USB3.0 & SATA 6Gb) http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...-G0EAY0DZ.html Corsair "Builder" 500w PSU http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...PSU-500CX.html ASUS GTS 450 http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...TCUDI1GD5.html Coolermaster Elite 335 http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...5-kkn1-gp.html Missing components are accounted for in what he's already got. Only questions/problems I can really see is will the 500w PSU be enough? What is the position with 32-bit/64-bit installs these days? Can 32-bit actually use 4GB now or only recognise it?

Assuming the budget and vendor is set in stone:
1. You should buy a 2x2gb ram kit instead of a single 4gb module - that's a dual channel motherboard. Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10600 C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit 2. We aren't too sure about the "Builder" series PSU's, but Novatech doesn't have anything better in that price range. 500 watts is plenty. You will need 64 bit to use all 4gb ram. |

Is Kingston the way to go these days then? My bad in picking the 4x1 I hadn't noticed. There is Corsair 2x2 on there for the same price:
Corsair XMS3 TwinX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit Fair enough, it's made by seasonic isn't it? It's got a 2 year warranty so hopefully should be OK for a while assuming nothing goes wrong. I've only used Corsair in the builds that I've done and haven't had any problems yet, although admittedly not having used the builder series :P Any comment on the wattage? It has definitely got the ampage required on the rails so my guess is it's good.. Thanks for the clearing up on the 32/64 issue. Last edited by Devastator; 04-20-2011 at 04:52 PM. |

The Corsair kit is not 1.5 volt, which is why I picked the Kingston.
Nope, the CX series (except for the discontinued CX400) is made by Channel Well, which is why we are a bit leery of them. Channel Well is the one that made all the Antec units that were having issues a few years ago. They do not use high quality capacitors. The Antec units we recommend are made by Seasonic, FSP, or Delta. The GTS450 only needs 400 watts. |

Built this yesterday and all went well. Didn't like the new style BIOS with the mouse and what not though, still wasn't great when you went into 'Advanced' or what I'd call regular mode. Therefore took me a while to find the SATA configuration after I'd gone on something else and then hadn't realise I still needed to 'back up' even if I had switched 'tabs'.
Case wasn't the easiest to work with but it was only cheap so what do you expect! Was fairly tool-less so I guess that is always a 'plus'. The PSU worked fine, it had a reasonable-ish weight to it so fairly confident it will last. Thanks for the help. |
